Description
Artzner craft beer has a very long history. It dates back over two centuries. In 1882 to be exact, Pierre Hoeffel founded brewery Perle in Schiltigheim. In 1919: Charles Kleinknecht, brewing engineer, took over the brewery and in 1930, a new brewery was built. Just before the Second World War, production reached 300,000 hectoliters. In 1971, the brewery was closed and the buildings were demolished in the 1980s.
In 2009, Christian Artzner, great-great-grandson of the founder, paid his greatest tribute to this beer by bringing it back to life. In 2015, the Perle brewery officially opened in Strasbourg, at the Plaine des Bouchers, with a brand new production facility and beers "made in Alsace"

Bottle from Auchan Illkirch-Graffenstaden. Apparently brewed with Braukon/Camba Bavaria at their place while the new Perle brewery is being built. Almost clear golden colour with a small white head. Intense and perfumy aroma of tropical fruit, passion fruit mainly. Same in the flavour, with good support by a decent malty background and a shy hoppy bitterness. Very fragrant.

Clear orange to amber colour, moderate sized creamy ecru head; aroma of pine resiny, grapefruity, grape peel, slight orange zesty and biscuity notes; taste is dominated by hoppy bitterness with the same notes as can be felt in the aroma; great one

Bottle. Clwae amber with beige head. Some toasted malts, lots of grassy hops, marijuana, strong caramel, bitter herbal hops. Medium sweet and quite bitter. Medium bodied, a bit dry. There's a lot of hop in here, not amazing but decent to try one.

Fles thuis geprobeerd met LiekevdV. Het is een donkerbruin bier met een volle schuimkraag. Het heeft een moutige wat vreemde muffe geur. De smaak is moutig, zacht, tonen van chocolade. Smaak is heel snel weg.

Tap at Le Local. Bit hazy amber with beige head. Indeed a lot of rye, bread crust, caramel, geapefruit peel, grassy, toffee. Medium sweet, light bitter and a tart finish. Solid medium bodied. A lot of rye indeed.

@home poured into a teku glass. White wine nose. Slightly unclear deep golden colour, a lot of small bubbles, small frothy white head, mostly diminishing, light lacing. Aroma pale malt, white grapes, gooseberries, lychee, floral hops. Taste medium sweet, light bitter, light to medium acidity, white grapes, gooseberries, alcohol notes. Medium body, prickly mouthfeel, lively carbonation, semi-dry fruity aftertaste with more acidity and bitterness, some alcohol, sugary notes, well-balanced, 'bière petillant', good grape ale.
