Super deep, almost completely clear copper, bronze and light brown coloured body with a frothy, but microfoamed 3 centimetre tall light brown and tan head that fades very slowly, but leaves a nice cap on top. Aroma of fresh grass, resin, pine and robust citrus fruits with a lot of earthy and fairly nutty malts behind and a dash of caramelised sugars and some yeast noticeable, too. Medium-bodied; Very strong grassy, herbal, piney and floral hop bitterness strikes first with a great old school bitterness that is very nice, robust, but balanced with a strong malt pungency and some very light caramel and toffee sweetness with a kick of yeast and bread qualities, but the hop bitterness from the alpha acids are front and centre. Aftertaste is great with an old school bitterness, but enough malt balance and subdued toffee sweetness to make this robust and balanced! Overall, a great Michigan take on an old school IPA with real hop bitterness that isn't unfiltered and brings a nutty and earthy malt profile along with some caramel sweetness. Great to sample this one, especially after my Detroit Red Wings were able to beat the [local] Washington Capitals and I was able to see it firsthand with my wife! I sampled this twelve ounce can, purchased from Meijer [grocery] from that great state of Michigan (Sault Ste. Marie) on 03-August-2021 for US$9,99/six pack, canned on 17-March-2021 and sampled at my house here in Washington (sadly not Michigan) on 27-October-2021.

12 oz can, dated 10-Oct-2022. Pours a largely clear orange amber with an off-white head. Guava/pear aroma. Flavor is pretty agressive with the guava at first, but seems smoother as it warms, incorporating grapefruit citrus as well. I don't think it's quite as well-balanced as my memory of the original Freedom of '78, but it is still fairly tasty.

12 oz can, canned 04-Oct-22. Pours a fully hazy, murky yellow with a white head. Bright citrus and pineapple aroma touching on pine. Flavor mixes soft, juicy citrus and tropical flavors (orange, grapefruit, pineapple) with notes of pine and toasty malt. A pretty nice one.

Can from Livonia Liquor. Pours a clear, orange to dark gold with a full two fingers of off-white head that lingers. Cream cheese and dill on the nose with warming alcohol and pithy citrus notes. More of the same on the palate with citrus, grapefruit and more dill aromas. Bitter on the finish with lingering herbal dill and lime pith.

Can from Livonia Liquor. Pours a hazy straw gold color with a finger of white foam that dissipates. Great lacing down the glass. White grapefruit, mango and pineapple aromas on the nose. More white grapefruit, lemon zest and orange pith on the palate. Drying finish with clean and crisp carbonation. Great stuff from Short's. Lots of flavor for 5%....like something great from Vermont.

Hazy medium orange body with loads of sediment; thin cream head. Tropical fruit juice nose. Passionfruit and guava are prominent in the body, and orange rind provides some tannic/bitter balance. Tastes like it has fruit extract, but I find no mention of this. If strictly hops, it's a pretty impressive feat. It hits a little hot and isn't as creamy as most Hazy IPAs, but it's interesting and worth a try.
