The Cavalier is celebrating its 50th birthday this year. Darker clear amber maintaining a decent head. Sweet hoppy, but very distinctive of this brewer if you've sampled enough of them. Malty-bitter finish.

The Cortina was the UK's best selling car of the 1970's. This beer won't be a best-seller in the 20's. Dark golden, hoppy, blandish, hints of sweetness but a bitterness dominates, especially in aftertaste.

Blurred lines here between red and traditional ale, hence the name, most familiarly associated with Samuel Smith. Hoppy, red ale aroma and taste to an extent, more a traditional ale texture. It's all very culturally a British ale in design.

"The New Driving Force From Austin" was the advertising tagline for this car in the UK. Interesting bittered orange fruit might be a new tagline for this ale. Has a very malty underbase. Fruitiest in nose, but good in taste too.

The red of Manchester narrowly defeated Burnley earlier. This red made in Manchester is traditional over flavour, with a lightly sweetened malt-hop balance in a mild red ale style.

My parents never had a Carrera back in the day, but their Austin Metro was a cracking runaround at the time. As cask lager goes this is a lovely textured one with a fine hoppy taste.

Cask at Mount Inn, Chester. Right, lets get one thing straight from the start. This is a Light Mild not a dark Mild (implied by CAMRA) or a “chestnut ale” or “amber ale” (described by brewery) or even a “bitter / ordinary” as previously recorded by Brewver. Anyway, it pours golden yellow with a small scummy off-white head and good lacing. There’s malts and summer fruits in the aroma. In the mouth it is sweet and creamy but with a touch of bitterness too. Flavour is malts and marmalade with hints of barley sugar and berry fruits coming later leading to a fruity finish. This is decent.

Moved on from Altrincham to Ashton-on-Mersey for another Mild Magic challenge pub but yet another with no mild. Not a bad ruby ale.

My parents owned a 'Maxi' about the time the Capri was prominent. Session hopped ale, decent but nowhere near decadent.

Half-pint, cask ale at Abel Heywood. Steady off-white head, clear ruby-black in the glass, scattered lacing. Lightly roasted malty aromas, hints of dried fruits. Moments of chocolate malts, bread, and dried fruits to the taste profile. Carefully roasted finish. Easy to drink. Nice, a bit diluted though. (Manchester, 01.05.2025).
