Sampled at the Odds and Ends Tasting II on 10/19/07: Pours a dark copper color with a medium thick and fluffy off-white head that has good retention. Patchwork lacing on the glass. Strong hops nose that is citrusy and piney. Rich and bitter character with a citrusy hops punch and a solid toasted malt base. Some pine and alcohol are evident in the taste too. The finish is hoppy and leaves a lingering bitter aftertaste. Overall this beer is a great example of a straightforward IIPA that retains enough balance to make it supremely drinkable.

Bomber from Bottle Barn. Aroma of caramel/lightly roasted malt (sort of honey/toffee) and floral hop. A deep inhale is interesting. An orangy golden color with a white head that ringed rapidly, leaving lace tatters. Medium bodied with mild carbonation. It starts floral, but soon comes up with rough roasted malt accompanied by light sweetness. It’s also lightly fruit in a peachy/apricoty way. Very much in an apricoty way. It’s actually pretty darn complex, and that is an indication this is underrated. The finish is neither sweet nor dry. The bitter is floral, so I’d guess about 40 IBU. Although bitter builds with continued consumption. I’d forgotten how talented those folks at Moylans are. This is extremely enjoyable ale. Crisp, clean, lightly spicey. Everything ale should be. Wonderful.

Nice slightly hazy deep amber coloured body with a very thin and fast-fading tan head. Aroma of fresh apricots, malt, honey, lemons, flowers and of course - HOPS! Full-bodied; Strong malt flavour up front with alcohol and yeast noticeable...then fading to a citrus and piney hop flavour that is unrelentless. After the mouth is puckered from the hops - the sweetness sort of settles on the palate and the piney flavours really come out! Overall, a good Imperial IPA, a bit strong and rough to be drinking all of the time - but good once in a while. I don’t understand how most peole can drink these in 65 cL bottles, but it is a good purchase! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 09-October-2007.

Bottled. An unclear amber beer with a thin orange head. The aroma is acidic with notes of herbs, caramel, and malt. The flavor is sweet malty with strong notes of caramel, but also a ligth acidity, leading to a dry fruity and acidic finish.

Pours hazy orange with a mid-sized, fluffy head. Aroma is strong citrus hops, pine, grapefruit, apricot, caramel. Thick and creamy body. Bitter!! Hops of citrus, pine and grapefruit. The alcohol is well hidden under the huge mound of hop bitterness. Resiny, bitter finish is long...real long. Bitterness stays when the delicious beer is gone. I almost think it’s too hoppy...HA! This is awesome.

Bottle: Pours a deep black with a moderate brown head and light lacing. Nose is rich with roasty notes, chocolate, and espresso. Taste is lighter in the roast with more focus on the mocha, chocolate, and coffee flavors. Just a bit of that mocha sweetness and hints of vanilla is balanced out with a hint of the roasted malts.

Bomber. Huge malty aroma suggesting toffee. Maybe a fair amount of citrus hop. Strong aromas in the snifter. Ruby apricot color with a beige head that filmed. Thin to medium body with mild carbonation. The flavor is grapefruit and pine (to me) with some pretty fierce malt. This is just big in every way. The finish is sweet to the fore and bitter along the edges. A great experience, but not an entirely smooth one.

Bottle from dirty_martini - Thanks! A blast of intentse hoppiness flows through the room as soon as I popped the cap. Blends of citrus and pine, light florals and a sweet maltiness. The color is a hazy amber with a large off-white head. Thick lacing. The flavor is intense with a medley of hops, lots of grapefruit, hints of pine, tail of florals, and a deep malty backbone. Pretty damn tasty!

Bottle from dirty_martini - Thanks! Pours a deep orange copper with a light haze. Thick, creamy head lasts the entire glass. Thick lacing. Nose is a simple balance of citrus and piney hops, some maltiness. Flavor is intense with hops; lots of citrus and hints of pine. Sweet caramel maltiness smooths it out. Very good.

(Bottle 65 cl) Courtesy of Storm. Pours a completely opaque black with a dense, light brown head. Very concentrated aroma with sweetish, roasted malt and dried fruits. Quite full-bodied with lots of roasted malt, raisins and other dried fruit. The finish is rather bitter. A very pleasant and accessible Impy. 290607
