Description
Yukon Brewing opened its doors in 1997 under the name Chilkoot Brewing Co. Ltd. Owners Alan and Bob conceived their idea like many Yukon babies – around a campfire on a canoe trip. Both Ontario natives, they’ve lived and worked in the Territory for a majority of their adult lives.
From that inaugural conversation grew plans for a craft brewery that would service the north with quality beer & spirits while keeping jobs and money in the territory.
Over a decade later Yukon Brewing, as it is called today, continues to work towards that goal. Employing a dozen or so staff (more in the busy summer months), Yukon Brewing actively supports countless Yukon events and causes each year.
Bob and Alan continue as owners and chief operators, growing the company outside the Yukon. The brewery’s 10 packaged beers are available across Alberta and BC with some even finding their way as far east as Quebec and at the Hannover Zoo in Germany.

473 ml can. Pours a dull amber with moderate head. Aromas of candied orange, a little spice, and doughy malts. Flavors of same with a bit of bitter pine near the end. More malty than hoppy, but easy to drink.

473mL can, pours a hazy amber orange with a medium beige head. Aroma has plenty of earthy hops, some resinous hops, gentle fruitiness, and crusty rye bread malt. Flavour is dry, with big dry, crusty, bready malt, and some bittering hops that linger but aren’t particularly evocative flavour-wise. Reasonable balance, just not that interesting a beer.

473ml can. Pours an opaque black with a small, creamy, short lived, tan head that laces. Mild aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate and coffee. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, caramel, dark chocolate and faint vanilla in a dry, bitter coffee finish. Light body with an oily to watery texture and soft carbonation. Could use more body, but easy drinking. Not bad.

Poured from 473mL can. Copper brown with small light beige head. Toffee and crystal malt forward with quite light resin hops, okay. Gets a hint phenolic bandaid-y as it warms, but minimally (lowered overall by .2).
