Description
Rogue Ales was founded in Ashland, Oregon in 1988 by Jack Joyce, Rob Strasser, and Bob Woodell. Construction of the first brewpub began in June 1988 in Ashland. The 10 bbl brew system was set up in the basement with a 60-seat Pub above. The Brewery and Pub opened in October 1988 to moderate success and soon, the company started looking to expand. In February 1989, construction began on the Bay Front Brew Pub in Newport, Oregon; it opened in May1989. Rogue now has four brewpub locations in Oregon: Newport, Astoria, Portland and Independence, and a fifth at the Rogue Nation World Headquarters in Newport.

19.2oz can from Albertsons. Clear, dark golden pour, small, fine head remains. Malty aroma, touch of caramel. Taste is malty and strong, I would have guessed malt liquor. All signs point to a malt liquor, including the can format

It is a classical American IPA. The taste is well balanced between the generous hop and malt, bitter and simply perfect to enjoy life, 22.05.2016, buying it probably at the ex grain d'Orges, Crissier.

Canned 11/11/24, drunk 7/16/25.
Dark, clear. Not ultra dark. Has some deep mahogany elements. Small, tan head.
Fruity nose with yet-apparent PNW hopping. Pretty impressive at 8 months of age...At least it's faded enough to just be a small element, not dominating. Chocolate and fudge around it, with vanilla and mild oak/bourbon. No alcohol noted. Very fruity yeast and dark fruits from the malts, as well.
Soft, silky, rich, but not thick. Good attenuation and pleasing sweetness from the malt. Bourbon isn't felt to the finish, but is quite evident with a good spiciness. Low oak, no alcohol. Minimal roast. Very fruity with tons of light fudge and milk chocolate character. A hint of the hops remain.

Backlog March 2008. Bottle. Unclear golden body under a big off-white head. Aroma is malty with a moderate smoke part and hint of smoked meat. Taste is sweet malt, smoke, some caramel and light fruity hops. Medium body and average aftertaster with a milder smoked impact. Decent but not the most interesting version of a smoked ale.
