Description
Great Notion Brewing is a project started by three friends; Andy Miller, James Dugan, and Paul Reiter. All three guys met each other out of coincidence, they live on the same street in North Portland. Andy and James met each other while home brewing in 2010, and began developing recipes and building a friendship. Together they have 25 years of brewing experience with medals in the National Homebrew Competition for fruit lambic and Double IPA. Paul Reiter has a degree in business and finance with a focus on start-ups and creative enterprise . In April of 2014, the boys finally got together and shared some home brew. On this night they enjoyed a Stout with hand smoked Vienna malt, a 3 year old Peach Sour, and a 10% double IPA. It’s fair to say, on this night, Great Notion Brewing was born.

Sample at EBF Saturday Lightly hazy deep golden color without much of a head. Tart berry and sweet sugary maltiness. Very well done beer tastes just like a liquid muffin.

Draft sample @RB Best. Pours cloudy yellow with a medium creamy off-white head that dissipates with great lacing. Aroma is old school grapefruit and pine, perhaps a hint of mango. Flavor is light bitter, light sweet. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. Huh. Not seeing why this is getting the ratings it is.

Huge aroma, pure maple syrup, dark chocolate. The alcohol is very strong, so that the mouthfeel is drier than expected; dark chocolate flavour, roasted coconut, some maple, with a touch of smoke in the finish. I'm a bit disappointed by the low sweetness.

2017-01-25, tasting at Matt's; crowler; 9% ABV, 8-4-8-4-16=40
Black color, almost no head. Strong coconut aroma, like those coconut shower creams. Moderately sweet, chocolate, coconut, lactose, some toasted coconut in the final.
A bit weird, but very good nevertheless.

Dark brown. Not much head. The aroma is a very nice, fatty, coconut aroma, Very sweet, coconut, quite sweet like arroy-d, nice sweet central american coffee...though you could argue the condensed milk of Vietnamese coffee is in there.

Crowler, pours jet black with a small brown head. Aroma is amazingly intense, with shitloads of coconut upfront, followed by dark chocolate -- wow. Flavour is incredibly intense, with shitloads of coconut dominating upfront, followed by lightly sweet dark chocolate. Wow, this is intense. Orgasmic mix of coconut and dark chocolate. Fantastic.

Oily coconut nose, chocolate, and a touch of coffee. OVer the top coconut flavor with a harsh, bitter finish and a little maple syrup. This is way too much coconut, but fun. Liked Double Stack much better.
