About
Great Notion Brewing is a project started by three friends; Andy Miller, James Dugan, and Paul Reiter. All three guys met each other out of coincidence, they live on the same street in North Portland. Andy and James met each other while home brewing in 2010, and began developing recipes and building a friendship. Together they have 25 years of brewing experience with medals in the National Homebrew Competition for fruit lambic and Double IPA. Paul Reiter has a degree in business and finance with a focus on start-ups and creative enterprise . In April of 2014, the boys finally got together and shared some home brew. On this night they enjoyed a Stout with hand smoked Vienna malt, a 3 year old Peach Sour, and a 10% double IPA. It’s fair to say, on this night, Great Notion Brewing was born.

Crowler thanks to Matt. Pours a cloudy orange with small white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is strong orange candy, cream, wheat. Medium body, similar flavors to nose, strong vanilla, very good.

Crowler thanks to Rick. Pours out a hazy golden topped with a white head. Nose is tropical fruit notes some lacto and a light citrus. Taste is tropical fruit notes and little sweetness and some light bitterness on the end.

Poured up at Ratebeer Best 2017 Beer Fest where it exhibits an opaque deep gold to slightly copper colored body that supports an off white head of foam. The aroma offers up tangelo and sort of pineapple cream cycle and it basically stays that way right into the end of the draw. The taste delivers delicious juicy tangelo and tangerine and tropical pineapple notes with just a thin hop bitterness around the edge adding a nice balance. It gets even more tropical from midway and into the finish as it picks up papaya, peach and cantaloupe. This is a delicious IIPA.

Poured up at Ratebeer Best 2017 Beer Fest where it exhibits a deep mahogany colored body that supports virtually no head at all. A swirl of the beer to bring up some bubbles shows how well this coats and nearly stains the glass. The aroma offers up rich nearly intense spicy maple with sort of residual sugars and a slight molasses in the background. Dang. The taste delivers rich roasted malt, dark roasted coffee, sweet molasses and kind of chocolate nuanced spicy maple… wow! It heads into the finish with lingering sweetened maple spiciness and some soft dark roasted coffee. If you’re into maple beer then this beer is for you.

Crowler 1L. Couleur orange pâle trouble, mousse blanche laissant un anneau sur les parois du verre. Arôme de fruits tropicaux, mangue, houblon résineux, malt, cannabis. Goût de fruits tropicaux, houblon résineux, malt, un peu dank. Carbonatation moyenne, corps moyen-dense.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear reddish color with a small white head. A big sweet fruity cherry woody nose. Huge cherries, tart, woody, sour and sawdust. Pretty sharp. certainly sour. Lovely flavors.

Crowler at a Tasting in Kyoto. A very pale cloudy gold with a very fruity prickly pear aroma. The taste is juicy sweet peppery, fruity and tangy. Really tasty but quite juice like more than beer like. Fun.
