"Founded in the summer of 2011 in Beijing, Slowboat has gradually developed from a pilot brewery located in the mountains on the outskirts of Beijing to one of the pioneering brands in the field of craft beer in ChinaHe has won many awards in the competition. Keg at Slow Boat, Beijing. Cloudy amber, creamy head. Grapefruity nose. Mid sweet with medium body and clean, rounded mouthfeel. Some caramel and perfume, lots of grapefruit. Really bitter finish.

Bottled at Xian, East Hotel, Beijing. Clear brownish amber, small head. Fruity caramel aroma. Mid sweet with medium body and clean, rounded mouthfeel. Sugar water and caramel, the slightest hint of citrus. Mid bitter finish. Sterile. Sources indicate that pasteurised bottles are brewed in the US.

330ml Bottle (Thanks Guidedogsaint) - Amber with a small head. Pine, peach, toffee and apricot in the aroma. Hoppy, tangy and slightly sweet taste with grapefruit, raisins, sultanas and dried apricot

330ml Bottle (Thanks Guidedogsaint) - Dark amber/copper in colour. Vinous fruits, leather, caramel and sultanas in the aroma. Fruity, malty and moderately hoppy taste with raisins, caramel, sultanas and dried apricot.

33cl bottle, thanks Cécile for bringing this back from China. Cuivrée, col beige léger. Arôme ofre un bouquet prononcé malté avec un petit côté chocolaté en rétro. Pointe caramel avec un houblonné qui se veut discret ajoutant une fine amertume nasale au caractère fruité-agrumes et herbacé discret. Cela semble s’être atténué avec l’age car la bière avait l’air d’avoir été embouteillée en octobre 2013 ou alors expirait en octobre 2013. Palais reste ici aussi centrée sur le malté avec un agréable côté caramel presque toffee. Houblonné se fait quand même présent avec un léger fruité voire léger herbacé et un palais un peu huileux. Correcte mais au final c’est tout de même le malt qui l’emporte.

Bouteille 33cl, merci à Cécile d’avoir ramener cela de Chine. Ambrée, col blanc cassé. Arôme est malté avec une pointe biscuitée oscillant sur la drêche. Léger poivré-grains avec un côté agrumes et fleuri avec un rétro-nasal de levure et un côté poussiéreux. Palais est malté-pâle, sympa biscuité ponctué d’un très bon citronné-agrumes restant assez subtil. Le tout reste fort centré sur le malté rappelant l’Amarillo et la Cascade. Touche épicée sur la fin, reste un peu sec. Un bel effort. et une bière restant axée sur le malt. Possible que cette dernière soit un peu passé sa jeunesse.
