Boatswain American IPA can pour into nonic pint glass at TJ's. Appearance is lightly hazy orange-brown with minimal sparkle, finger-width beige fizzy head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is bread/nondescript malts, mild fruit, basement. Taste is cardboard, fruit, earthy resin and vaguely buttery (diacetyl) quality as mentioned in other reviews. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with foamy texture, average carbonation and finish as taste with light bitterness. Overall, this is really a terrible IPA (hence its "1" rating for style). But, I'm not sure for what style it would be considered good. It is not good. Don't waste your money, even the $.84 I spent on it. Not worth it.

Boatswain H.L.V. into pub glass from Trader Joe's. Appearance is lightly hazy reddish-brown with nice sparkle, cap of beige fizzy head with poor retention and trace lacing. Aroma is dominant yeasty dough, light fruit and candied sugar. Taste is yeasty dough (almost a little unfinished), light caramel. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with slick texture, lively carbonation (that dominates taste/palate experience) with dry mix of sweet and bitter finish. Overall, between a slightly unfinished aroma/taste and over-carbonation, this was not that pleasant to drink.

Boatswain Double IPA can pour into nonic pint glass from Trader Joe's. Appearance is clear, dark amber with nice sparkle, 1/2-finger width white head with poor retention and trace lacing. Aroma is initial bready malt which then shifts quickly to fruity esters (seems like the wrong style). Taste is bread, caramel and fruity esters. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with silky texture, average-to-lively carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, this is so weird for a DIPA that it is a spectacular failure for the style. But, if you called it an imperial saison then it's fairly interesting. Not complex but odd in a somewhat good way.

Can as part of the Trader Joe's 'Boatswain' range. Amber in colour, with a slight, white, head. Sweet, heavy malts, rather artificial citrus notes and a boozy, heavy, finish. Not for me.

16oz can pours a crystal clear corn gold with a ring of head that faded very fast. Nose is as you'd expect, corn, malt, yeast, dough. Flavor is a bit more corny, corn sugar, malt, honey. Watery finish. Not good, but I've had more offensive light offerings.

Clear golden coloured body with a large-ish, two centimetre tall pure white head. Aroma of corn, light malt, cardboard and a dose of earth with some funky sweetness as well. Light-bodied; Strong bitter malt up front with a big cardboardie malt along with some sweet canned corn and caster sugar sweetness. Aftertaste shows more of the bland malt and subdued sweet flavours and nothing really of substance. Overall, the beer goes down quite easily and doesn’t taste the funky and bittering characteristics of a BMC product, but this one isn’t worth drinking nor flying down here for - the fruit-based options seem much better for beer down here! I sampled this twelve ounce can, purchased a few minutes ago at JC Mart in Tumon, Tamuning, Guam for US$2,29 sampled while walking here in Tumon, Guam in the middle of the day heat on 20-July-2017.
