On tap at Bierhaus, Riga. Slightly hazy golden with a modest, white head. Fruity aroma with slightly funky notes, hints of Belgian yeast, barnyard, citrus and herbs. Moderate sweet with rather mild fruity flavours and a mild bitterness. Slightly funky and fairly refreshing, but not to memorable.

On tap (as Alkimikis Pale Ale) at both the brewery and Aussie Pub, Riga Well the most important thing to say about this beer is that it isn’t pale ! Pours a ginger biscuit brown with a white head. Darker than even a traditional IPA, more the colour of a Marzen. [ This information is necessary when it is available in outlets which have a reputation for having different beers pouring from taps than displayed on the clip – there are several such places in Riga ] Anyway, not much in nose except a general fruityness. In the mouth hops and caramel, with a fruity hoppy finish. Not at all bad.
