Description
Our name, Almanac, refers to the Farmer’s Almanac, a seasonality reference guide for farmers that has been published every year in the U.S. since 1818. Our motto, “Farm to Barrel”, was adopted to reflect our passion for brewing bold and sustainably sourced beers. Farm-to-barrel brewing is about selecting the best in sustainably sourced ingredients and using them to create beers inspired by the great brewing traditions of the world. We aim to create something uniquely Northern Californian.

Almanac was founded in 2010 by Damian Fagan and Jesse Friedman, two avid home-brewers who bonded over their mutual appreciation for California farmers markets. They set out to brew beers inspired by California’s rich agricultural bounty. After nearly seven years of partner brewing, we moved into our very own 30,000 square-foot production & aging facility located on a historic naval airbase on Alameda Island in San Francisco Bay.

Single from Craft Beer Cellar in Dallas, surprising. Pint glass @home. Slightly hazy, medium gold with a twinge of sunset & floaties on the second pour; Weak head. Light vanilla & mild dark fruit with a curious fresh twang. Vanilla smoothness on the intro leads to a sharp tartness of plum or berry skin. Slight astringency, significant oak pith & some bright cherry-apple over a gueuze-y backbone. Not too acidy. A little frothy. Kinda good.

Can from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours gold with a white head. Aroma is tropical - passion fruit, citrus and mango. Med body. Dry. Moderately bitter. Flavor is pretty much the aroma, tho some pine seems to have snuck in. There's some light astringency - maybe some pineapple there. Good flavor. Forgot the malt - it's there, but hardly noticeable for flavor. Clearly providing good hop support tho.

Can from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours hazy gold with a large foamy white head. Aroma is a real mixture - papaya with bubble gum? Med body. Flavor is papaya, citrus, melon, earth and something making me think of the old Fleers bubble gum. No comics here tho. Juicy but only delicately sweet. Enough bitter to balance things off. Malt is really submerged. Nice drink indeed.
