Description
Our name, Almanac, refers to the Farmer’s Almanac, a seasonality reference guide for farmers that has been published every year in the U.S. since 1818. Our motto, “Farm to Barrel”, was adopted to reflect our passion for brewing bold and sustainably sourced beers. Farm-to-barrel brewing is about selecting the best in sustainably sourced ingredients and using them to create beers inspired by the great brewing traditions of the world. We aim to create something uniquely Northern Californian.

Almanac was founded in 2010 by Damian Fagan and Jesse Friedman, two avid home-brewers who bonded over their mutual appreciation for California farmers markets. They set out to brew beers inspired by California’s rich agricultural bounty. After nearly seven years of partner brewing, we moved into our very own 30,000 square-foot production & aging facility located on a historic naval airbase on Alameda Island in San Francisco Bay.

Can from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours clear gold with a moderate beige head. Aroma is rather tart and has some fruit. Arguably med body. It's pretty dry and pretty tart/sour. Some white grapes and wood astringency in the flavor. Malt is somewhat lost in the mix. A few sips and it becomes quite approachable.

Can from Total Wine in Vacaville, CA. Pours lightly hazy gold with a moderate white head. Aroma of passion fruit and citrus. Med body. Juicy and tropical but more towards dry than sweet and somewhat earthy/dank. At least moderately bitter. Flavor is passion fruit, citrus, touch of zest, green guava, melon and some earthy notes. If not dank, it's near the territory. Good stuff.

Can from Corti Bros. Pours lightly translucent gold with a very large creamy white head that laced slowly down. Aroma of passionfruit and grapefruit. Med body or so. Flavor has some white grape and a bit of earth, but there's still passionfruit, substantial grapefruit and a suggestion of peach. Dry enough. Caramel malt support. Bitter. Heat is hard to find. A very good ale.
