RBSG 2002 bottle This pours a hazy medium brown with a small head. Heavy malt aroma that is backed up by good solid malt flavors. Smooth palate, not overly sweet. well balanced Barleywine style brew.

Coffee, coffee, coffee. Why not just drink coffee? Oh, yeah, the alcohol. And the roasted malts that are like adding one lump of sugar. The cream is in the mouthfeel. And then there’s the hint of sweet chocolate. But mostly coffee. Poured dark brown (like a cup of coffee) with big, tan head. Overall, quite enjoyable.

Bottle. Thick and smooth. Boisterous roasted malts in both the aroma and taste. Slightly sweet before the hops kick in to bitter up the aftertaste. I detect a slight tartness that compliments the sweetness. The alcohol is noticable, but gets out of the way of everything else going on here. Poured as dark as a moonless night with a tall dark brown head that quickly dissipated. Overall, a hearty, delectable stout. 2006 Bottle opened 1-09. Opaque black with tan head that quickly diminishes. Roasted malty aroma with a touch of oxidation. Notes of chocolate, caramel, roasted and burnt grain. Very light hint of resin. The flavor is heavily sweet and lightly bitter. That remained through the finish. The heavy bitterness in the finish is gone though the alochol is evident. Full body with a velvety texture and soft carbonation. I actually liked the aged bottle better, but also realize after several other bottles, both fresh and aged, that I had overrated this beer originally.

"Smooth and sweet," is the first thought I had after tasting this. It poured amber and cloudy and yielded a citrusy aroma. Medium-bodied. Not notable for complexity, but flavorful enough for a summer beer — wheat and yeast and a light sweetness. I could definitely drink more than one of these on a hot summer day.

Completely black with bubbly, off-white lacing - somewhat tart aroma with background hints of cherry and chocolate - flavor seems less that of a flavored stout, and more like they took an oatmeal stout and blended it with a fruit beer or a lambic - the tartness blends very well with the oatmeal stout like sweetness - an interesting variation in the Bells line of stouts.

This stout reminds me of dessert. Chocolate and malted roasts predominate, both in aroma and taste. Smooth and, not unexpectedly, creamy. Pours black with dark tan head (that didn’t last long). Just right amount of sweetness for this style for my taste.

An opaque brown beer with a disappearing brown head. The aroma is sweet with chocolate being most dominant, but also contains hints of alcohol. The flavor is sour with notes of chocolate as well as alcohol - I think this one is too old.

An unclear brown beer with a disappearing orange head. The aroma is of roasted malt and alcohol. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of prunes, wood, and over ripe fruit. The end is dry, but the body is thin.

An unclear brown beer with a disappearing brown head. The aroma is sweet with lots of alcohol combined with notes of oranges, and chocolate, as well as hints of roasted malt. The flavor is sweet malty with ntoes of coffee, roasted malt, lemon, as well as hints of prunes and alcohol.

Black, with a small fleeting head that ringed the top of the glass. Chocolate and coffee aroma. Well balanced flavor of roast malts with a coffee finish. Bells seems to be going in the right direction. Thanks to Wohlfs for giving me the chance to try this historical brew before it lost all of it’s good points.
