Description
Brewing bold beers from our hilltop in Hebden Bridge and pouring punchy pints from our very own taprooms. We’re resolutely in the business of setting standards, not following trends.

Can from Shambles Tavern in York. Appearance - close to opaque black with a lovely fawn head. Nose - creamy milk chocolate. Light smoke and earth. Taste - black jack sweets and charcoal. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a fairly balanced finish. Overall - my first beer from this brewer and it was enjoyable.

Keg @ Old Gate, Hebden Bridge. Black with next to no head. Crisp and fairly thin tasting for its strength, which isn’t overly evident in its taste, although its nose carries greater evidence of this. There’s some chocolate and roasted malt in its nose, but not a great deal as there’s a small fruity fusion, with these flavours most apparent in its taste. Not quite what I expected from a chocolate stout.

Can from We Brought Beer, Clapham, London - pours fuzzy orange amber with a nice white covering. Aroma and taste is a medley of citrus and tropical fruits, lashings of mango, peach, tangerine and pine needles, good solid caramelic malty backbone, grassy and herbal and light floral hoppy action, great lingering bitter hoppy finish. Lovely.

Can. Turner’s, Sheffield. Clear, dark brown. Thin, clingy, tan head. Nose has vine fruit. Red grape juice. Some cocoa solids. A bit woody. It’s at the fruity end of the spectrum. Taste is fruity, and vinous tart. Cocoa dryness. Palate is light, and tart. Finishes fruity, light bitter. I was expecting chocolatey sweet and rich. Maybe I expected wrong. Ok at best.
