23rd Dec 2014: hand-pulled cask pint in The Pheasant, Wellington Shropshire. Mahogany/chestnut body with an off-white crown that produced some good lacing. Malty and semi-sweet with a nutty feel to both the nose and taste. Slight spicy trace within the flavours and an easy drinking Christmas brew.

Can. Pours clear caramel amber with no head. Aroma is dried rose leaves, perfume, orange peel, malt and butterscotch. Taste is light sweet, light to medium bitter and light acidic. Body is light oily with soft carbonation. Finish is a bit short with notes that follow the nose.

Cask at Ryries. Pours clear gold. No head. Aromas of caramel, light acetic acid. Taste is thin, sweet. More vinegar at the end. Guessing not well kept. Didn’t finish it.

Cask at Tanners Hall JDW, Darlington. Clear deep golden amber colour, white foam head and malty nutty aroma. Taste is malt, toffee, raisins, fruity and light bitter. Smooth mouthfeel, medium bodied, soft carbonation, clean finish. Quite OK.

Cask at the Macbeth Moor, Musselburgh. Pours clear amber, thick white head. Aromas of butter and oat biscuits. Taste is more of the same. Sweet finish. Not great.

Cask at the Columbia press Watford jdw. Aroma is toffee, stale malts, vinegar and cleaning fluid. Mostly clear caramel, amber coloured pour with a fleeting halo of white head. Flavour is sweet caramel and cleaning product citrus, seriously fucked. Some savourly meaty flavours and ammonia. Palate is semi sweet tart, and moderate carbonation. Fucked.
