Bottle. Black with red tinges. Light tan head that fades a fair bit. Aroma of dark toffee, roasted malt, plums, mocha, what seems like licorice and iodine until you taste. Quite a lot of burnt flavours upfront, with just a little sweetness behind. Didn’t smell like oysters, but you can taste them, or at least their liquor - there’s a bit of gritty brininess running right through to the finish. Not as much as the very full-on Scheldebrouwerij Oesterstout, but it’s there in spades and nicely integrated. Very good balance and weight. Excellent. [3.9] Head lingers a little longer. Rich without much sweetness, quite roasty, dark berries, minerally bitter finish.

Bottle. Amber with lots of particulates. Beige head. Mild but distinctive gooseberry/ grass/ funk aroma with some caramel. Creamy texture. Gentle and plain caramel sweetness with mild citrus bitterness. On the reserved side for an English-style IPA - it strikes me as more an ESB - but with NZ hop character. Timid.

Draft. An unclear yellow beer with a thin white head. The aroma has notes of lemon and coriander. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of coriander and lemon as well as medium notes of wheat and light notes of malt, leading to a dry, wheaty, and lemony finish.

Bottled, thanks TimE! Clear amber, firm head. Vague grapefruity aroma. Mid-sweet, mily and caramelly with notes of rubber. A pedestrian crossing of American style malt, NZ type hops in British amounts.

Light brown color. Huge crystal malts upfront with hops definitely playing second fiddle. Some bitterness in the mouth, but really I thought this was an IPA for yuppies, who want to get into craft beer.

(Bottle 50 cl) Pours a dark brown – almost opaque – with a tint of red and a dense, light brown head. Distinct burned malt aroma with a whiff of port. Medium body with solid burned malt accents, a little vanilla and perhaps a wee saline touch. Dry malt bitter finish. Excellent. 130608

(Bottle 50 cl) Clear amber golden with an off-white head and lots of floating impurities. Lightly citrusy hoppy nose. Medium body with lightly sweet caramel, some citrus and a somewhat astringent hoppy finish. Could very well be tuned up a bit on the hops. 270408
