Description
BridgePort produces a variety of international style ales, including IPA. BridgePort’s ales are naturally conditioned in the bottle, keg, or cask from which they are served - they’re never force carbonated. The natural conditioning creates ale that is smooth, naturally carbonated, and full of flavor.

Draft. Dark amber with a big off-white head. Grapefruit aroma. Big grapefruit flavor with some malt backing but I’d like to see a bit more. Nice hop flavor and a bitter finish but a bit one-sided. Easy to drink.

An amber beer with a disappearing off-white head. The aroma is sweet with notes of alcohol and oranges. The flavor is sweet with lots of alcohol that burns the tongue, but also notes of wood and caramel. Too simple for my liking.

Bottled. Clear amber, viscous, not much head. WHiskey arom aof oak and alcohol. Salty with some toffee. Kind of light bodied for such a big brew. Alcohol gives a burning sensation. Long bitter finish.

Amber color; creamy head. The aroma is not very rich, showing some alcohol, light malt. Malty taste, some caramel and sugars but too much alcoholic, not enough rich nor complex. Drinkable, nothing more…

Bottle Pours a clear dark redish brown witha small off white head that quickly settles but still manages to maintain nice very resilient lacing. Aroma is a very nice plum cherry fruity combo with an alchol, almost cough syrup hint. Flavors are consistant, pitted fruit, alcohol is up front but not too strong. A bit of cherry throat lozenges and nsome nice dark malts. Easy on the hops. Palate is not particularly rich and the aftertaste is a slightly smokey somewhat bitter wood/grass flavor.

Bottle Pours a cloudy medium orange/amber with a small off-white head that quickly settles into a thin film that is maintained. Excellent fine, even lacing. Aroma is sweet full grain and hops. Taste is a hopy grapefruit rind and malt. Strange flavors but somehow easy going down. Feel very rich and full with a perfectly complimentary soft, fine carbonation. Trailer is the classic bitter of the style but so sharp or harsh. Quite nice IPA.

Bottle Pours a deep redish brown with a nice thick beige head. Fine sheeting lacing as well. Aroma is a woody sweet malt mostly. Not much hops are evident. Flavor is straight forward and simple, sweet malts some dark roast flavors and a thin feel with lazy carbonation. Aftertaste is a wet cardboard woody flavor. Not bad.

On tap at BridgePort, sampled 4 August 2004. This was the cask-conditioned version. Deep red body with a thin cream-colored head. Dark fruit aroma with caramel and, yes, alcohol. Bourbon was apparent yet not too aggressive in the flavor, complemented by caramelized malts, brown sugar, and alcohol. Not very complex, reminiscent of a few American versions of the "wee heavy" style. Hops were subdued. Average to below-average fare for a barleywine.

On tap at BridgePort, sampled 4 August 2004. This was originally served to me in a tulip glass as their cask-conditioned barleywine, but the furious movements of my pen led to the realization I was actually rating Pintail Ale. Clear copper body with a thin off-white head. Musty, earthy fruit aroma with light caramel and toast. Caramely flavor with light fruit notes, toast, and some bittering hops. Boring but not terrible.
