Description
BridgePort produces a variety of international style ales, including IPA. BridgePort’s ales are naturally conditioned in the bottle, keg, or cask from which they are served - they’re never force carbonated. The natural conditioning creates ale that is smooth, naturally carbonated, and full of flavor.
Today, BridgePort Brewing Company is one of the top specialty brewers in the state of Oregon. As BridgePort Brewing grew in popularity, it also grew in its brewing capacity from its 600-barrel beginnings to over 100,000 barrels per year. Distribution has grown from Portland to 18 states, and the brewery’s emphasis on producing quality, innovative ales has provided it with an international following and numerous awards.

(draught - 1 yr. lagering) Deep red beer; brownish, slight head. Very fresh nose, but subdued. Slight impression of piney hops. Taste is bitter, but with a lot of roasted/dark malts underneath the hops. The lagering seems to have very little done for the beer - there is a winey touch but the bitterness its too oppressive to give it a real chance. Very well bodied, oily, slick feeling. Still, to watery-thinnish texture for an aged Barley Wine. I would expect more.

Slightly hazy golden colour with a very subtle orange tint. A nice frothy white head stays on top for a while. Very high a.a. hops were used in the dry-hop process for this beer, as the aroma is mouth-watering! It smells similar to the beer I brewed with Gallena and Northern Brewer, so they might have used one or both of those in this beer. Some citrus is noticeable as well in the aroma. The taste is initially hopppy with citrus highlights, and subsides to a nice subtle malty palate. Medium bodied...perfect for the style with a great aftertaste that isn't too bittering, nor too clean. This is an IPA to drink every day of the week, not as strong as the Stone, but not as weak as a DFH 60 Minute. One of the better IPA's i've had, and this is my favourite style. Worth trying to find if you might be able to find it. It's very common on the west coast, but if you are in Washington, try going to the Brick...they are supposed to keep it on stock, but every time I asked for it, they didn't have it. The back of my botte read: 10003, but I don't know what that translates into. I bought my 12 ounce bottle from Total Beverage in Thornton (Denver), Colorado.

Copper in colour with a medium-sized tan head with large bubbles. Pit fruit smells such as prunes and figs dominate the aroma with caramel and roasted malt aromas in the background. Full-bodied; strong initial taste of pit fruit and malt, then fades to show some hops and coffee/chocolate bitterness. The alcohol is noticeable after you take a sip, and fades away a few minutes later. Not really recommended by me, there are plenty of better barley wines to try no matter what coast you live on. Overall, a decent beer, but not really fitting in the barley wine category...it seems like more of a traditional ale in my opinion. This one most remineded me of Young's Old Nick "barley wine". I had number 11 from the 2003 bottling. I bought this 12 ounce beer at Liqour Mart in Boulder, Colorado.

Dark amber in colour with a very thing off-white head. Smells of malt and sweetness, such as honey and fresh pineapple. Taste of malt and cardboard in the taste. Medium to light bodied with a slightly sour aftertaste. A decent bitter, but not too great. I was really expecting more from Bridgeport. Brew Date: 15-May-2003. I bought this 12 ounce bottle from Total Beverage in Thornton (Denver), Colorado.

1999 vintage, rated 2003
Dark amber-orange; aroma is typical of barley wines this age - toffee, chocolate, molasses, with slight band-aid phenols. Rich complex malt profile - earth and pine included. Solid and serviceable, as it's always been.
