In 1993 the company again renamed itself as the Rockies Brewing Company. In 2005, the company again changed its name back to the Boulder Beer Company.

Very attractive, an orange-tinted ruby, with an even firm layer of foam which dissipates gradually leaving a pitted creamy head that clings just right. Nicely clear and almost glowing. Aroma is a bit of a letdown, with a strong earthiness joined with winter spices of nutmeg and ginseng. Highly reminiscent of Anchor's OSA but without the malt layers to support it. Surprisingly, the flavor makes me take that back: a nicely pillowed backbone of toasted biscuity malt, a complement of earthiness. The spices are subdued, mainly present in the aftertaste, and not well defined. Hop flavors are difficult to identify but are well balanced in the semi-dry finish. Not too bad for a spiced ale, although I think they could do better after a few more wintry attempts at it.

Perhaps my least favorite so far of the "Looking Glass" line of beers. Starts with a nice complexity, with aroma that hints of orange-chocolate, caramel, earthy and spicy hops. But the flavors never meld: unbalanced orangey sweetness up front, unbalanced earthy bitterness in the finish. A cinnamon or nutmeg muted spiciness is in there somewhere but doesn't add much.

Perfect orange tinted golden colour with a great thick dense off-white head. Sensational aroma of grapefruity and citrus hops, peaches and even some pear sweetness. Seriously a mouthwatering beer. Medium-bodied; Strong inital hoppy flavour mixed with the fruity sweetness fades to a subtle hop taste. Aftertaste shows a little of the hops, but much less than the inital taste. This is balanced well with malt...and truly a great beer. This 22 ounce bomber survived a trip from Denver to Detroit. Detroit to Washington and Washington to Rochester and still tastes great three months later! I bought this bottle at Total Beverage in Denver, Colorado.

Sampled at From The Vine monthly beer tasting Oct 13th, 2003: Clear dark amber color with a somewhat foamy medium white head. Nice lacing. Fair amount of hops in the aroma. Medium body and kind of earthy, with a nice blend of citrus and other fruit, hops and a hint of caramel. A little bit of malt makes its way through in the finish but it retains the hoppy aspect throughout. Pretty good.

Sampled at From The Vine monthly beer tasting Oct 13th, 2003: This beer is a dark copper color with a medium white head. Thin lacing. Hops and citrus in the nose. Medium-bodied and with a strong peppery hops presence. The finish is tart grapefruit and more hops. I normally like a lot of hops in an IPA but the hops flavor was on the spicy side in this brew.

Dark amber, clear; good head, yellowish, fast gone. Very fruity nose, pineapple or pineapple cake. Flat, cookie-like taste; ever so slightly bitter finish. Medium bodied. Flat & boring, very surprising after the feast by Hazed & Infused.

(draught) Pale orange-amber. Not hazy at all. Little white head. Nose a symphony of beautiful fruity hops, with exotic fruitaromas as kiwi, grapefruit, lunaria, nectarine. Marvellous! Taste is bitter but in no way exaggeratedly so; flowery, very slightly grapefruit. Finish is like English cask bitter (this is keg!). Light to medium bodied. In the aftertaste, on little down note as the bitterness becomes a tad harsh. Shame. This is a little gem, IMO.

Lightly hazed golden color. Creamy head and heavy lacing - a common characteristic among these hoppy Rockies ales. Fresh hop aroma with resin, herbs and a bit of citric grapefruit. Some buttery malt notes. Very piney flavor with a nice clean malt flavor backing it up. Still, the pineyness is a bit overdone. Light in body and feel for an IPA. Tingling hop resins coat the mouth. It seems that the Rockies Brewing Co has developed the habit of producing mediocre ales and heavily dry-hopping them to add character. Light finish, not very bitter.

A fairly nice hoppy amber ale. Pure amber color with a medium creamy head and heavy lacing. Aroma is hoppy and citric with lemon rind, some grapefruit. Flavor is hoppy and moderate caramel malting with biscuity flavors, tingly resiny mouthfeel. Fresh hop aromatics are what make this beer. If they've faded with age, don't expect much else.
