Description
Big Sky Brewing Company was started by Neal Leathers, Bjorn Nabozney, and Brad Robinson. Brad and Neal had been homebrewers in Michigan since the mid 1980’s, and had moved to Missoula with a group of friends in the summer of 1990. In 1993 they started to set up a brewery. After about a year and a half, Big Sky Brewing Company had enough cash in the bank and a large enough bank loan to begin purchasing equipment and renovating its original location at 120-A Hickory Street. We brewed our first batch of beer in mid-June of 1995.

The company was a draft only brewery (no bottled beer) for its first five and a half years. We brewed everything on Hickory Street, but we realized that to really become a regional player we had to find a way to put our beer into bottles. in early 2002 we broke ground on a new brewery on Trumpeter Way just north of Missoula’s airport. We began brewing in the new brewery in September of 2002 and started bottling our beer there in January of 2003. Since then, we have been where we always wanted to be, brewing and packaging all of our beer right here in Missoula.

Amber colour with a finger of dense foam. Gentle carbonation. Fresh aroma of mandarin orange peel and a little bit of cedar. Moderately bitter. Very grapefruity with light florals and wood. There is a slight hint of caramelly/toasty malt but it’s rather subtle.

Looks decent. Average white head, clear dark yellow body. Light malt and honey in the nose. Wet and light without much more than some slight sweetness and not much else. Lacks anything interesting but is inoffensive.

Malt and caramel aromas. Very dark orange with a head that lasts. More malt and caramel in the taste. Seems like an English strong without being ruined by alcohol flavors.

Medium brown color with an average head that faded quickly. Not much aroma, a little bit of a roast malt and caramel is all there is. The flavor is sweet and nutty with a light body. Drinkable, but somewhat average.

Bottle Pours dark reddish brown with very litle head or lacing. Aroma is faint dark roasted grain, wood smoke. Taste is subdued, roasted, carmel, malt. Smooth and easy is the feel with a nice smooth finish

Bottle Pours a medium reddish copper with very little head or lacing. No real aromas cme through but faint grain and hopps. Earlier review mentioned "hampster cage"...yeah OK...kind of. Taste is dominated by a nice strong hoppy tang and a little malt. Finish is hopps and a woddy slant. Clean and fresh though as well.

Bottle Pours quite light yellow/golden with a modest fizzy head. This disapears quicky leving very little lacing on the way down. Faint apple, and hopps, with a plain pale flavor of bread, hopps and slight cirtus. Finish is prety soft, with lingering slight hoppy biterness. Nothing special, colder would have been better.

Almost non existant head and no lacing. Looks like tea. Just looks wrong. very odd. Smell is a little musty earthy and faintly of honey. Medium carbonation, Slightly citrusy and the honey is definately there but not overly sweet with it. Finish is neutural and quick. Very refreshing.

Standard pa with hop bitterness. It could be refreshing on a hot day, but I could find a better pa or ipa for that. Wow..this is so boring.

A friend visiting Montana brought this one back for me - Thanks Pigboy! +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours a very dark color with a small tan head. There is a light sweet and toasted aroma. The flavor is smooth, creamy and smoky. The smoky taste lingers on the aftertaste.
