Cask@Cayo Arms, Cardiff. Light copper brown color, small white head. Strong aroma of honey in the nose. A bit watery, crisp, earthy (not fresh cask?), malty-nutty flavor.

Cask@Cayo Arms, Cardiff. Clear dark ruby red, small creamy off-white head. Sweetish nutty nose. Nutty, dry malty flavor. Good malt base, but that’s about it. Being cask version propably helps a bit.

Fresh: Copper beer with a disappearing off-white head. Weak fruity aroma, some dates and plums. Initially sweet flavour with a hint of sourness, and lots of warming alcohol. Aged re-rate - BB: Nov 2005, tasted Sept 2007. Head seems more lasting than the fresh one. Dried fruits, port, and some solvent aroma. Sweet dried fruit flavour, some alcohol, relatively thin flavour. After a few sips it’s all sweet and oxidized flavour and I won’t recommend long cellaring.

33cl bottle from Franglais, Calais. What on earth is this doing in France? Reddy chestnut colour with lasting beige head. Strong dry malt aroma. Some spice. Not unattrative at all. I can’t believe this is so strong. A bit like Abbot Ale in flavour in the mouth. Very malty. And then the sickly alcohol kicks in. Oh dear. It was fine up to this point, but this really is far too sweet and nasty. Bascially it starts well and finishes badly.

Cask. Dark copper colour. Quite fruity, a bit like a soft drink, but of course less sweet. Nutty aftertaste. Typical bitter, OK for sessions, but not too interesting.

(Bottle 27,5 cl) Clear, very dark amber with a small, crude head. Vinous, sherry-like and strongly alcoholic nose. Sweetish and malty with very complex and refined notes of overripe fruit. Very warming alcohol - a true winter warmer. 111105
