Peltr Blond in its original form is a top-fermented blonde beer created by four brothers-in-law in 2013; they still seem to have the ambition of establishing their own brewery one day, but to date, this is still brewed by Anders. Plans exist for a dark version, but apparently they changed their minds meanwhile and opted for this special Centennial-hopped variation on the regular Blond instead. Inches thick head, clearly hops-enhanced, eggshell-white, coarse and thickly cobweb-lacing over a warm, pure golden coloured, initially cristal clear beer with lively sparkling. Aroma of banana, ripe melon, dry grass, powder sugar, white pepper, lemon zest, cooked parsnip, chewing gum, white bread, dusty hay – but little of the citrusy and piney ‘force’ a well-applied Centennial can offer, alas. Sweetish fruity onset, banana ester, pear, pineapple, sourish side also due to lively, very minerally carbonation; cereally and lightly bready malt middle leading to a mildly spicy finish with a dash of coriander seed and a relatively subtle zesty hoppiness, only softly (and grassy) bittering. Some phenols further ‘disturb’ the already frail hop character. Not a bad beer by any means, but even if I can appreciate Belgian blondes and tripels being embellished with New World hop varieties these days as a nod to modern Anglo-Saxon craft beer culture, I am always left with a feeling of mild disappointment when confronted with this kind of beers; Centennial can offer such a mouthwatering, deliciously expressive aroma when applied sufficiently generously, and this is another case of a simple Belgian blonde remaining way too ‘shy’ – with a waste of a beautiful American hop variety as a result.

Bottle from Valentino, Ninove. Pours clear amber with a small, frothy, off-white head; little lacing. Aroma of caramel, almond, peach, grass, herbs, hint of iron, peanut, red grapes. It tastes medium malty sweet, hint of marzipan, and light spicy bitter, a bit herbal & yeasty, hint of bread & iron. Dryish, herbal & grassy hoppy finish, lingering yeast. Medium body, slick texture, lively carbonation.
Paired with a dark Hop Ganache: fruity taste, hint of caramel, a bit hoppy with a very light sour touch (berry), more 'dark', towards a Dubbel. With a milk chocolate Pecan praline: nutty, of course, sourish. With a milk chocolate Crème Brûlée praline: outspokenly malty, caramel & creamy, a bit of iron. Fun to try once, though the beer itself is not really worthwhile, and I find pairing a bit unwieldy...

Huge, light-yellowish dense head over (cold)hazed yellow-orange beer. Quite aromatic hops' nose, lemony, but not particularily (exotic) fruity. Warming up, nose gets more malty, bit other grains, bit peppery-spicy aromas. Bitterish, with a light fruitsugars undercurrent, nothing I can specify. Maybe mainly orange-like. Dry finish. Warming up, bitter almonds. Well-carbonated, very slick to oily, medium bodied. Not bad, nothing special. IPA is a doubtful moniker, here. 6/4/7/3/14

Golden colour with lasting fluffy head. Aroma is quite yeasty like a saison. Flavour has a nice malty background with light citrus and a dry finish. Well balanced.
