Bottle from Buchanan’s Bistro. It pours clear deep red-ruby with a small beige head. The nose is is soft, sweet, candy, jammy, berry, cherry drops, candy, earthy roast, light cocoa and light tang. The taste is bitter-sweet, high alcohol boost, earthy roast, jammy fruits, plenty of berry, toasty, candy cane, damp wood and alcohol boost with a dry, warming finish. Medium-full body and moderate carbonation. A bit rough around the edges, but OK.

Bottle from the very source. It pours clear amber with a decent fluffy white head. The nose is rather lovely... tangerine, mango, orange marmalade, white grape, raspberry, brioche and soft rosemary notes in the background. The taste is crisp, bitter, juicy orange, apricot, lime zest, decent hit of rosemary, brioche, orange muffin, grapefruit, marmalade and minerals with a dry, peppery finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. The aroma is particularly lovely and the rosemary is thankfully not over-done. Very nice.

Bottle from Buchanan’s Bistro. Opens with a bit of a gush, but that’s probably my fault for not letting it settle long enough after transportation. It pours cloudy amber with an effervescent off-white head. The aroma is that of a well spiced fiery ginger beer, with earth, wood, ginger root, peppery spice, chilli almost, some sweet orange and soft cardamom. The taste is bitter-sweet upfront, then rather spicy, fiery ginger beer, earthy, cardamom, almost smokey, medicinal in nature and a hit of citrus peel with a dry, mildy spiced finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Rather unique stuff. A proper grown-up ginger beer. I doubt it will be for everyone, but I rather like it. Another winner from these guys!

Bottle at Buchanan’s Bistro. It pours clear deep brown with a decent beige head. The nose is soft, malt-driven, earthy, brown bread, fruit cake and a touch of treacle. The taste is bitter-sweet. caramel/toffee, fruit cake, dried fruit, wood, toasty, soft roast, leather and just a hint of acidity with a smooth finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Brilliant balance and crazy drinkable. An excellent example of the style.

Bottle at Buchanan’s Bistro. It pours hazy orange-amber with a massive yellow-white head. The nose is earthy, orange muffin, stewed peach, Orangeade, Irn Bru, sherbet and some bready malts. The taste is bitter, earth, pine needles, bitter orange, zesty grapefruit, light alcohol hit, bread and some spice with a dry, piney finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Assertive bitterness and high drinkability. Very well crafted stuff.
