Bottle. Pours gold with thin white head. Restrained citrus aroma with some floral and honey notes. Nice lively mouthfeel. Citrus and light malts. Slightly sour finish with some bitterness. Pleasant enough and competently made, but rather dull.

[10/09] After tasting their odd Steam Ale, tried in the new packaging to see whether they’d footled with it. No. Caramel in colour. Small beige head. Flowers and pears on the nose, maybe some grapefruit too. Round malt with a nice herbaceous balance from the hops. Medium to full body (for the style). Moderately astringent finish. Doesn’t taste much like an English pale ale, except in the way it tastes somehow alive. A lovely original beer. [4/12] Probably wouldn’t rate this so high now, but so familiar it’s grandfathered. [9/14] Tap at the Healesville Hotel, bottle a couple of days later. Noticeably better on tap these days. Still an excellent pint. Bottle is OK but duller with less punchy citrus. [3.7][3/17] Bottle. Holy hell. This is crap. This beer was as much about texture and life as flavour. Now it’s dead-eyed caramel-flavoured lolly water. The hops are still OKish but this is a shambling zombified mockery of the beer it once was. Leaving the score for the beer it; this would be a 2.7. Drank this a lot in the late 90s and returned to it every now and then - admittedly more on tap than in bottle. Makes me sadder than I’d have guessed. Damn

Pale amber pour, small head.German (noble) hops instantly noticeable in the grassy and floral notes, nice and subtle overall though, not overwhelming. Some clean malt in the background. Very nice.More grassy hops upon tasting, not quite my thing usually, but it mixes in with a fair bit of sweet malt to make a nice mildly refreshing beer. Finishes with a prominent but easy-going bitterness.Moderately light body and carbonation, works well.

Dark amber pour with a small off-white head.Fruity citrus aroma, some grassy notes. Wholemeal bread malt with some toasty notes.Bold toasty malt flavour, with some green hoppyness and quite a pronounced hoppy bitterness (slightly over the top?).Good creamy carbonation.

Pours tar black with slight copper hue. Generous brown/tan head fades quickly leaving good lacing.Lots of roasted grains, some dark chocolate and oats.Initial sweet flavour quickly overpowered by bitter roasted grains, which contribute a rich espresso hit.Thick, rich mouthfeel although carbonation is a bit over the top.

Prefer this out of a tap. Pleasant caramel finish with hoppy nose. Lovely autumn beer as low on fizz.

Not sure why the IPA is rated lower than the pale ale, this is one of their best offerings, which doesn’t say much. Grapefruit, hops, no backbone and very moderately bittered finish. Yawn.

Pale golden color. Mildly hoppy mouth and citric mouth. Dry grainy finish that isn’t too pleasent. Boring.

Bottled. A hazy light orange beer with a thin white head. The aroma is sweet wheaty with light notes of citrus, and so is the flavor , leading to a dry finish. Weird for the style. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.
