2006 Vintage. Old bottle thanks to Adam Jackson. Nose is soy sauce and molasses. Flavor is weak and thin. I guess this is WAY past it prime. It’s really bland overall. Meh.

Bottle from a downtown KL supermarket. Poured a deep brown with a thin frothy tan head. The aroma is malty, but a little weak. The flavour is medium to strong bitter with lots of liqourice and a hint of creamy toffee. This really wasn’t a bad beer at all and much better than I expected.

Crisp golden coloured body with a thin, one centimetre tall white head. Aroma of light malt, metal, a tiny hint of hops and a fair amount of unfinished sugars - not bad and not as pungent as most danish beers. Light-bodied; Surprisingly fresh and sweet flavour with a lot of nice malt flavours tucked into a tiny bit of fruits, alcohol and a light metallic taste. Aftertaste is relatively mild, no harsh flavours coming through - just a bit of malt, light hops, earth and some light alcohol. Overall, not a bad beer - just light, but no bad harsh flavours, and a little light citrus, hoppy, airy note on the finish. Still, nice to try, given that you can’t find/see this ever, but not a great beer of course. I sampled this 32 cL can purchased from a small grocery store in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 22-April-2011 sampled at home on the other side of the globe in Washington on 21-August-2012. My can differs from the picture as mine was pure black with gold writing, but a short can (32 vs 33 cL).

Draft at the Brussels Beer Cafe, Kuala Lumpur. Dark brown pour and a frothy head. Its a typical stout in its appearance. However, if you are expecting it to taste like a typical stout you might be surprised. It’s quite malty and light with a hint of bitterness. I found it quite refreshing actually and when served cool it seems to suit the Asian climate. I won’t be coming to Asia especially to drink this beer, but I could be tempted to order another in preference to a Guinness so I guess that’s quite a decent recommendation. Having said that, hardened fans of the black stuff would probably turn their noses up at this imposter!

Black colour with a beige head. Roasted malt aroma. Rich and fine texture. Mild coffee and roasted malt flavour. Very well balanced and almost no alcohol taste. Honest to goodness!
