On nitro tap at the Oldsmar Tap House. Pours into an imperial pint glass a clear pale gold with firm bright white head. Nice looking beer. The aroma is mild with faint hints of citrus hops, floral hops and some malty sweetness. The initial impression of the flavor is its fresh, lively and sessionable. It starts with mild pale malt semi sweetness followed by a growing vague hop bitterness. Are the hops spicy, citrus, piney? Can’t tell. Toward the finish the hops combine with some malt sweetness to create a slight citrus hop sensation.

Pours black with ruby highlight when held up to light. Aromas of chcolate, roasted barley and hops. Flavor starts sweet and finishes bitter. Tatses like chocolate, roasted malt and slight hop bitterness. Full body, creamy and slick mouthfeel. A blend of porter, stout and scotch ale. Worth a try.

Bottle, Ale Cellar, Darlington. Very dark , virtually black with fading brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate. Big heavy flavour, prominently malt, dark chocolate and some fruit. Very smooth and rich. Aptly named. Get ya motor runnin baby.

Bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville. Pours a dark chocolate brown with minimal head. Aroma of cola, citrus, whisky and oak. Smoky and bitter taste with a faint sweetness at the end. Not bad.

Cask at Guildford Arms, Edinburgh. An amber beer with a lazing orange head. The aroma is sweet malty and fruity combined with a light flowery note. The flavor is sweet malty and fruity, leding to a dry bitter finish. The body is thin. A bit boring.

11.2 oz bottle (0357/Sept07) ($16.79)from Country Club Liquors; Big foam almost came out of the bottle top; Black, brown edges, and a big cinnamon tan lightly laces the glass; Nose more chocolate than the other 2 without the fruit, mostly chocolate nose with some vanilla accents and a little bitterness, which also is the finish. I think they needed a much bigger beer to work with the Highland Park barrels because I got little in the way of woodiness or scotch from these very expensive beers!

11.2 oz bottle (07522/Sept07) from Country Club Liquors; $10.29 Nose of caramel, prunes, and none of the smoke I got in the 12, black, brown edges, with a medium cinnamon head that laced nicely; flavor more fruity than the 12 with some oak and hop bitterness. Alcohol and scotch flavors if they are there are completely hidden! Not as good as the 12 but only $.50US more!

11.2 oz bottle (01611/Sept07) from Country Club Liquors; Nose of chocolate, toffee, light smoke, and pruny fruitiness; black, brown edges, and a small cinnamon tan head; flavor is chocolate, lighly smoky, and a little oaky. I got no scotch flavor or nose. Finish has a little light fruitiness and a bitter note. Not any better but a lot more expensive than the regular Old Engine Oil, I expected some big wood or Highland Park flavors to come out, but I got vey little for my $9.79US!

330 ml bottle, pulled from the cooled by hogfodder on 3/20/08. Special 16, bottled September 2007. Pour is deep brown and amber. Tight off white head. Aroma of musty caramel and some fruitiness (apple). Taste of wood and caramel a bit of a dry cardboard finish. There is some interesting sea water saltiness in the finish as well. Nice one, thanks Rick. We drank this next to the Orkney Dark Island, so may have suffered a bit by comparison.

Bottle from Spar, Strahaven, Scotland. Great name !! Pours pale golden colour with a small frothy white head which gradually dissipated. Zingy citrus aroma with a hint of spice. Nicely crisp, balanced hoppiness, but lacks a knockout punch somehow. Teeters on the edge of being very good, but falls a bit short due to a certain thinness.
