Located in French Flanders, in Saint-Sylvestre-Cappel, 3 MONTS Brewery is a family independent brewery since 1920. The name 3 MONTS comes from the Cassel, Cats, and Récollets hills, an outstanding feature of the local landscape. Passed from father to son since 1920, the brewery today produces beers that evoke the richness of the land and the legendary flemish conviviality. Bottled 750ml, alc. 8 % (BB 09/2009). Clear deep ruby color, small beige head. Strong aroma of sour milk, toffee and fudge. Caramelly, toffeish, a bit hard mouthfeel, alcoholic. Diacetylic? Quite classic winter beer ... personal ... good? I am not sure if I’d drink this in the regular basis.

Beautiful, reddish brown beer with big blond and head. Aroma is sweet, some berries, grass and slightly dusty. Flavour is malty, peppery, spicy and surprisingly slighlty roasted. Quite nice and slipery to drink with nice carbonation. Balanced beer without mistakes, but on the other hand, there are not so much to remember or actually there is a beautiful appearance.

Bottle marked "3 Monts Grande Reserve Special Ale" thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a golden body and a small white head. Aroma of skunk, grass, candi sugar, pear and apple. Taste is bitter with buttered toast, brown sugar and apple. Dry finish.

Bottle, 8%. Weak fruity aroma. Clear red brown colour. Very small tan head. Good caramelly flavour, balanced by a distinct, but pleasant alcohol feel. High carbonation. Seems to have a little sweetness, but balanced off by the alcohol.

Bottle, 75cl. A clear, pale golden beer with a white head. Grainy, slightly fruity nose with some alcohol and the typical biere de garde touch of cellar. Grainy flavor up front, with fruityness, some cellar notes and a sweetish touch. Medium, quite dry mouthfeel. The finish is more or less like the initial flavor, but I would very much like a little bitterness. Quite decent, quite forgettable, quite quaffable. (081229)

Stupendously huge head, very stable and cream-coloured over clear, deep amber to foxy beer. Rather fresh herbal aroma, like nettles or so, firewood with some dried resin, dried fruits as apricots and caramel malts. Fresh, quite caramelly however, flavour, with good maltbite balanced by slightly metallic hops. Very tasteful, but surprisingly drinkable for a 8.5% beer. Slight liquorice, toffee, but nowhere cloying. Medium bodied, end slickness with some viscosity at last, alcohol remaining hidden. Remarkable – this beer being much better than I seem to remember. A really good one!

75 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden yellow with a huge white head. Mild malt aroma with a light butterish accent. Sweet caramel malty flavoured with a light bitterness before the finish. Smooth, light sweet and easy with a good hops/malt balance. Ends dry and hoppy.
