bottle at O’Donnell’s in Ft Wayne - Pours red with a big light tan head. It smells of yeast and malt with light caramel notes. The flavor is a well balanced blend of those same malts and some hoppy goodness along with light fruit esters. It looks good and has a lively palate.

Bottle, 8.5%. Weak sugary aroma. Hazy brown colour, small head. The flavour is OK malty, slightly sweet with a hint of cream. Some marcipan to flavour along with a little rough bitterness. Rough and mild in a good combination. High carbonation and good alcohol level.

75cl bottle at Pig’s Ear BF 08. Deep russet with thin beige head. It’s got some red berry fruit, bit of stale malt which is unfortunate. Gets better, bit too carbonated, bit too cold.

Can: Poured a bright golden color lager with a nice pure white bubbly head with minimum retention. Aroma of grainy malt with some light skunky notes and maybe even buttery malt notes. Taste is also dominated by skunky notes with some grainy malt. Body is about average with some average carbonation. Definitely something I won’t seek out again.

Bottle, 8.5%. Standard lager aroma. Not bad, but grainy and quite refreshing. Hazy golden colour. Nice, big, stable white head. The flavour is also grainy and lagery. Slightly bready, but not enough. An ale which has some OK lager properties.

This stuff is really good, and quite a bargain at only $5.50. Great aroma of oak and cherry. Light barnyard character, touch of sourness, and a lot more cherry in the flavor. More oak here, and light spices. Brown color, moderate carbonation. A wonderful, full flavored biere de garde.
