About Mjøderiet:
Behind Mjøderiet stands five firefighters from Bergen with a passion for mead - an ancient cultural drink that has only in the last few years begun to return to Nordic palates.
With backgrounds as home brewers and beer enthusiasts at various levels, we at Mjøderiet have ambitions to revitalize mead in Norway. We believe Norwegians are ready to take part in the international development where mead has made a comeback in several countries. We think mead is insanely exciting and is a drink with great potential.
Mjøderiet wants to spread knowledge about mead, revive the classic styles and experiment with new and exciting flavors. We want to have a foot in the old mead tradition and one in the new craft brewery culture, where we experiment with fruits and spices, different alcoholic strengths and different levels of carbonic acid.
The meeting room will have diversity.
We want quality, and genuine passion for precious drops.
For painstakingly collected honey from diligent bees. For real fruits and berries, for flavorful herbs and spices. And of course for exciting and unique flavor combinations.
We want to meet the people.

Bottle, 75cl. A clear, golden colored mead, still, oily and headless. Honey and herbs in the aroma, and some alcohol. Some fruityness, bellpepper like. It's full-bodied and warming, oily, with a dryish feeling in the end. Honey and herbs, with some alcohol, lemon and some bellpepper hints. Medium length finish. Not my favorite from Mjøderiet, lacking a bit on complexity I think. Needs some warmth or perhaps the correct food. 240224

Sample from bottle courtesy of Gunfryd. Clear bloodred body with some brown nuances. No carbonation. Aroma has honey, mild spices, and alcohol. Taste is dominated by honey as well, some spices/herbs, warming alcohol and a touch of red berries (vine?). Balanced body and nice aftertaste. Was expected some more flavors from spices, but this was served at cellar temperature so I expect this will be more prominent at 50 degrees. Preferred served cold anyway.

Bottle, 75cl. Tasted both at around 50 C and cellar temp. It's reddish brown, still and headless in both servings. The aroma is quite different though, with more vinous notes in the cellar temped glass. The 50 C glass has more raisin and spiced notes. Red wine in both. Less honey as the temp is raised. It's full-bodied and warming, almost sticky, yet with a vinous dry touch. Oily. The flavor is pretty much like the aroma, the cellar cold quite vinous and with a good honey touch. It's lightly spiced, yet not as spiced as the 50 C version. Anyway, I like them both, but as a mead, it's best served a cellar to room temp. With rice cream or cold rice porridge I'd go for the heated solution. 240125
