Description
Renaissance brewing was established in 2005 when experienced brewers Andy Deuchars and Brian Thiel purchased the lease on the historic Grove Mill in Blenheim. Andy and Brian, both natives of Southern California, had one goal in mind - to produce stunning beers in a region more renowned for the excellence of its wines. We are committed to using local ingredients and are one of the pioneers of craft brewing in New Zealand.

Bottle from Beautiful Beers, Bury St Edmunds. Pours hazy yellow gold with a big frothy white head, and touch of biscuit. Nice aroma of hop, zesty citrus and light tropical fruit. Moderate sweetness, medium bitterness. Toward medium body, watery texture, higher than expected/too much carbonation.

Bottle @ Van Moll Brewpub shared with Erwin Van Moll. Hazy dark orange color, average sized off-white head. Aroma is malts, hops, very resinous and piney. Taste malts, again very resinous and piney, sticky hoppiness, medium bitter finish. Medium to full body, suitable decent to medium carbonation. Nice!

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up at Offie & Toffee. Pours clear, deep gold with a frothy, white head. The nose holds ripe, jammy citrus, some piney hops, bready pale malts. Light to medium sweet flavour with more ripe and chewy citrus character, some gummy white grapes, a bit of caramel, oily pine, crusty pale bread, restrained bitterness. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Finishes with further suggestions of faded hops, gooey pine, chewy citrus, crackers. The beer is still drinkable and somewhat interesting, but I think Father Time has certainly visited this beer.

Slightly citrusy, herbal-grassy, hoppy aroma, hints of lemon, a touch of gooseberry and green pepper. Taste is moderately bitter hoppy with a herbal-grassy spicy touch, some citrus, hints of gooseberry, green pepper, minimally grainy, pale malty basis. Good.

So the 5.2 % version is listed as an IPA and the 5.8% is an APA ... Ok ! Bottle at home, split with and thanks to James, 05/05/17. Golden copper with a decent off white head. Nose is pretty basic ...biscuit crumble, caramel, straw, light fruit esters. Taste comprises caramel, light orange peel, toasted bread, grains. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a little dusty hop bitterness. This one of those ’Gateway’ type of beers or wat?
