Description
Renaissance brewing was established in 2005 when experienced brewers Andy Deuchars and Brian Thiel purchased the lease on the historic Grove Mill in Blenheim. Andy and Brian, both natives of Southern California, had one goal in mind - to produce stunning beers in a region more renowned for the excellence of its wines. We are committed to using local ingredients and are one of the pioneers of craft brewing in New Zealand.

Bottle, at Duggfrisk. A dense, pale beige head forms over an unclear brown body. The aroma has lots of sweetish toffee, with dirt and some chocolate and coffee. It’s full-bodied and quite sweet on the palate, smoothly carbonated, and with toffee and dark sugary sweetness dominating. Some chocolate and coffee chiming in, and there’s a good bitterness as well. Lasting sweet, malty finish. A really pleasant scotch. 160820

Bottle, at Duggfrisk. It pours an unclear, dark orange colored body and a dense, beige head. Lots of pine cones in the aroma, some tropical aromas and sweetish malts. Citrus zest too. There’s a good bitterness in the mouth, with malty sweetness to balance it, still it feels rather dry, especially towards the finish. Full body and a nice carbonation, with orange zest, pine cones and some tropical fruits. Long bitter finish. Delicious. 160820

Bottle from beer hawk. It is a red wine of a beer, deeply flavourful and sour. Spicy on the palate. I find it an uncomfortable half way house though of sour and barrel aged. Aroma is very much like port (wine, raisin, molasses). Nice but wouldn’t get again; no doubt exemplary for its style.

Froma 330ml bottle on 15/4/2017. Pours a dirty, murky golden with a tiny head. The aroma is relatively strong, with citrus and stone fruit, and . It starts with biscuit malt but is dominated by ripe apricot and peach, Syrupy with a hint of booze. Quite drinkable if a little unsophisticated.

Bottle from Beautiful Beers, Bury St Edmunds. Pours pale amber with a white head. Light aroma of hop, fruit, peach, straw and strawberry. Moderate sweetness, medium bitterness. Toward medium body, oily and watery texture, average to soft carbonation. Finish grows sweeter. Bit disappointed.

On tap at Lager Lager Berlin (and a Growler for home). Comes with an amber color and a small white head. Very nice nose: passionfruit, strwaberry, tropical fruits and slightly pines.Taste is not as fruity as the nose, but very well balanced bitter-sweetness. Grapefruit peels, pines and floral jops. Nice bitter palate.
