Description
Renaissance brewing was established in 2005 when experienced brewers Andy Deuchars and Brian Thiel purchased the lease on the historic Grove Mill in Blenheim. Andy and Brian, both natives of Southern California, had one goal in mind - to produce stunning beers in a region more renowned for the excellence of its wines. We are committed to using local ingredients and are one of the pioneers of craft brewing in New Zealand.

Bottle shared at Six Deg N event. It pours clear rich red brown with a small white head. The aroma is earthy, woody, leather, toffee, dried fruit, honeycomb and toffee crisp. The taste is slick, bitter - sweet, oily, toffee, candy, toasted brown sugars, chewy, slick, dried fruits and some warming booze with a slick finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Rich and filthy. Good fun.

330ml bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring. A copper coloured pour with a thin cream head; boozy aroma with some sweet grains; sweet caramel and barley sugar taste; and a slightly drier finish with some warmth. Seems more like an old-fashioned barley wine to me.

Bottle @ home shared with Dutchdrebus. Hazy orange color, average sized white head that lasts for a short while. Smell and taste lightly malts, hops, pleasant fruity hops, moderately bitter. Decent body, a bit fizzy carbonation.

Bottle @ benzai. Hazy yellow to orange colour with small white head. Smells hops, fruity, fresh. Tastes malty, sweet, some hops. Slightly annoyingly sweet actually. Could use more crispness. Medium body, soft carbo.

500ml bottle at 6.66%. Pours very dark brown with a glorious head. Lots of spice, ginger, cardamom, vanilla, plums, cherries, some brandy heat, some citrus and pine come through as it warms, little bit of toast near the end. Good full body. Fantastic.

33cl bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring. A pale amber pour with a thick creamy looking head; the aroma has citrus, cream soda, and some spicy grasses; in the mouth it’s also soft, smooth and lemony to start, but then develops a firm bitterness; before a sweeter mango-like finish. Certainly better than the average European pilsner.
