Description
Renaissance brewing was established in 2005 when experienced brewers Andy Deuchars and Brian Thiel purchased the lease on the historic Grove Mill in Blenheim. Andy and Brian, both natives of Southern California, had one goal in mind - to produce stunning beers in a region more renowned for the excellence of its wines. We are committed to using local ingredients and are one of the pioneers of craft brewing in New Zealand.

330ml bottle. Clear, orangey, dark golden to amber colour with average, frothy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Rather weak, floral and (citrusy) fruity, hoppy aroma, pale and caramel malty background, rather unspecific fruitiness in a spectrum encompassing lime, lemon, unripe kiwi fruit, gooseberry, rhubarb without really getting close to anything of these; minimally waxy overtones. Taste is minimally sweet pale and caramel malty, unspecific green, hoppy fruitiness repeats the olfactory impression, some grassy aspects as well, minimally waxy overtones. Oily texture, smooth, super-soft palate, very fine, soft carbonation. Superbly crafted, very clean, a tad too weak and unspecific hop flavours overall.

Vintage 2018. Nose is a fruity malty mixture whose notes of biscuit, red fruits, toffee, crumbs are the main components with a barely perceptible alcohol as a backdrop. A clear coppery red liquid is covered with a well-formed, medium-sized foam that persists quite moderately. Taste is a deep fruity caramel that fully expresses itself and is covered with a comforting alcohol that persists until finish. Notes of candied fruit, cherries, biscuit, crumbs and even prunes. The hops are discreet and somewhat fruity. The alcohol is very well integrated and adds just enough warmth and comfort. The body is round and fluffy with a velvety texture. Intense, complex and tasty beer.

2018 Vintage bottle that pours a dark amber colour, clean, with a beige frothy head, average retention and some spots of foam lacing. Rich aromas of caramel malt, dark fruits and the hops seem a little off. The taste is quite sweet, with raisins and the other dark fruits. The hops do help not being too syrupy in the end. The finish is fairly dry for such a beer. Overall, just too rich.
