Description
WELCOME TO OLD NATION

Those who know what goes into our beer, understand that it’s a modern-day treasure chest. One you’d almost rather collect than drink … almost. It’s the kind of magic that only happens when you honor tradition, throw the rulebook out the window, mix techniques – not just ingredients – and aren’t afraid to fail until you don’t. It’s why our overnight success was more than 15 years in the making. And why we’ll never stop experimenting just because we’ve brewed another “next big thing.”

Very hazy straw golden coloured body that's murky, but still shows some bubbles on the sides of the glass, all with a two centimetre tall pure white soapy head. Aroma of oranges, grapefruit, light honey, oats, a touch of hay, grass and some lactose in here as well, with a bit of alcohol at the end of the nose. Medium-bodied; Very orange-y and citrusey flavours show at first with a kick of dryness and hay-like, almost saison-y notes at the end with a slight bit of sugars, but the end shows some actual hop bitterness, too. Aftertaste is rich - pretty malty, especially for the style that somehow shows a bit more biscuity than others, but this is very clean and dry with some hop bitterness coming through the seems, with an underlying flavour of citrus fruits throughout. Overall, a nice beer - about right for the style, but the strawberry (tart) version that I sampled yesterday was somehow much better overall - this is a tad dry, but still shows the fruits here and while the hops are noticeable, the malt sticks out a bit too much. Good to sample from the great state of Michigan - fairly fresh, but I'd recommend the tart-strawberry version of this [M-43] if you only have ONE! I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Trader Joe's in Northville, Michigan on 23-October-2022 for US$3,25 canned on 29-September-2022 and sampled at my house here in Washington on 17-December-2022.

Very hazy and cloudy yellow coloured body about 95 per cent opaque with some noticeable tiny bubbles rising from the sides, all covered by a nice three centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of very nice strawberry, lactose, guava, bananas and a lot of papaya and melon notes with a big richness here. Medium-bodied; Crisp and tart fruit flavours show at first with a very nice dry and grassy touch of hay and hibiscus flowers with a tart strawberry and rich banana flavour, with a lot of wheat malt here that adds a lot to the body, but is very easy-drinking. Aftertaste is full of flavour with the fruit front and centre with a kick of tropically notes from guava and melons, with an ever-so-slight hop bitterness here and some soft sugars towards the end with lactose noticeable. Overall, a nice beer that shows a lot less of an IPA than a fruit beer, but there still are some hops here and a slight bitterness, but above that all are the balanced malts and sugars, which end this nicely. I'll sample this soon with the 'plain' M-43 for comparison sake - but this is nice...fruity, but still delicate - get it if you can find it, sampled AND purchased a long way from my home state of Michigan! I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria (Potomac Yard), Virginia on 13-November-2022 for US$4,99, canned on 26-May-2022 and sampled at my house here in Washington on 16-December-2022.

Aromas are dry grain, citrus, resin and a bit of dust. Flavors are similar to nose, bittersweet up front going towards a finish that is on the sweet side. Slightly soft mouth and warming finish. Not bad but it's more or less been done before.
