Cask at the Great Expectations, Reading. Golden amber with a thin cream head; sweet and fruity aroma; smooth and creamy in the mouth, with a sharp fruity taste; but an indistinct finish. A great start, but a bit of a let down to finish.

Cask at the Great Expectations, Reading. A hazy pale amber pour with a tight cream head; grainy aroma with a hint of banana; soft and grainy in the mouth with some banana flavour; and a dry, lingering banana finish. A good attempt at a German style Hefeweissen, but needs some spice.

Cask at Great Expectations, Reading. Yellow-gold with a thin white head and a light effervescence. It’s a light lemony beer with a little caramel behind. Very simple, but pleasant and competently brewed. An easy-drinker for lunchtime or a sunny afternoon.

Cask at the Great Expectations, Reading. Cola coloured with no head; sweet nutty malt taste; with a earthy, treacly finish. An OK mild - perhaps lacking condition. I’ll put it down for a retaste!

Cask at the Great Expectations, Reading. Golden amber with a ring of white head; citrus aroma; rich oily body, with some fruity malts and a light bitterness; before a sweet biscuity finish. A pleasant malty bitter.

Cask at the Great Expectations, Reading. Apparently brewed on the premises - the equipment is actually in the pub, although there was no sign of any activity when I called in. The beer is a traditional ordinary bitter - straw coloured with a thin white head; malty aroma; light malty body, with a touch of grassy bitterness and some citrus. Not exciting, but an OK pint of ordinary.
