Pours amber/gold into a tulip. Fluffy conglomerate head with medium retention leaves sheet lacing as it recedes. PIne and lemon aromas. Crisp and clean with upfront sour citrus and a lasting pepper and hop finish.

Poured from a bottle at the Brickskeller Lupilin Reunulin. The brewers themselves described the unique concept of the beer as "an homage to Belgium." Apparently only 18 barrels (400 cases) were made, and the beer is apparently a blend of different oak barrels each with 5 strains of yeast. The effort and time put into this beer is clear. Pours a translucent, rosy yellow/orange with a soft, cloudy white head. The aroma is outrageous, something you could stick your nose in literally all night long. Aroma is very floral, yeasty, sweet but also tart, with grapefruits, cloves, incense, pollen, and sour Jolly Rancher. The aroma could be a borderline 10, but a touch more hop would be needed to put it over the edge. That could be my only complaint about the entire experience. The flavor is like bottled sweet tarts but also very sour, oak, grapes, lemons, honey, flour pollen, sour mash and funk. The finish is both sweet and sour, also a touch earthy and a little oily. This is the best, most drinkable Gueuze/Sour I have ever had. It got rave reviews at the tasting and was clearly the high point of the night.

Bottle shared by Marcus. Wonderful sour cherry aroma. Dark brown color with a head that left quickly. Near medium body with mild carbonation. Somewhat woody - like cherry pits. Lots of mild fruit flavors banging around. Perhaps a touch of cola. Extremely pleasant drink. This one could be to die for.

Bottle shared by Marcus. A nice mild, sour cherry aroma. No head that lasted. Dark amber/brown color. A little wood in the aroma. Very nice mouthfeel. Lightly sour. Cherry skin. So pleasing the mind goes into suspension. Sour to the end, but pleasantly so.

Courtesy of Quake1028. Pours deep dark with thin brown head. In the aroma I get some roasted malts moving toward some burnt malts then fruity esters. The alcohol notes then join the fun near the end of the whiff. The taste is mildly roasty to burnt initially and backed by sweet maltiness to molasses sweetness. The burnt malt notes then build to midway. The moderate malt sweetness runs into the finish. I also get hints of a creamy mouth feel.

Very dark brown. Big chocolate nose (more expressive from the bottle). Thick, sweet, with assertive but in step hop balance. Hints of wood and an alcoholic finish. Not all that roasty - I envision a foreign stout brewed to Imperial size.

Winelike and oaky, with woody accents, crazy rich fruitiness and a big depth of malty tang. Long, dry finish. You’ve got to be kidding me.

Spritzy, still milky-looking at this point, lending a nice sugary sweet malt character, reminiscent of the way the yeast does this to a nigori. Light floral, peppery notes. Finishes dry and assertively yeast. Cooool - this’ll be a fun one.

Thanks to riversideAK for sending this one in a recent trade. This hazy, light gold brew sits under a thin white head. Typical funky Belgian aroma. Moderate sweetness in the flavor, some spicy notes as well.

2008, aged nearly 4 years: More of a muddy chestnut brown colour, no head and looks a little bit dead. The aroma rich, figgy and oxidized so this is smelling quite old, maybe past its prime. The taste lacks complexity, but has some darker fruits, rich sweet malts, and finishes a bit flaccid. This bottle really didn’t handle this aging process.
Fresh: Bright golden-brown colour. Aroma of figs and raisins, and lots of chewy dark malts and hints of molasses. Complex palate with some nice dark fruit character and rich, sweet malts. Long finish and full body. 7-4-6-4-14 = 3.5
