Description
Lagabière was born in November 2012. Brothers Sébastien and Francis Laganière opened the doors of their brewery in the heart of Old St. Jean, in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. Initially offering only one of their beers and a few beers, the inventory has grown rapidly, offering only locally brewed products. With a capacity of 20 beers in service, the offer is very diversified. Each recipe is original and brewed with extreme rigor. Today, after more than sixty original recipes created, Lagabière also offers a range of imported beers, quality alcohols and a homemade food menu, incorporating as much beer as possible.

Can: Poured a hazy blonde color ale with a large pure white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of citrusy hops undertones with light green notes and light peppery notes also noticeable. Taste is a mix of citrus and green hoppy undertones with some light residual sugar notes with light peppery and somewhat spicy notes also perceptible. Body is somewhat lighter than the style would suggest with good carbonation. Enjoyable NEIPA but I could have done without the list spicy/peppery notes.

(473ml can from L'Axe du Malt, Quebec City) Pours quite hazy orange-gold with a n average white head no lace. Aroma of sweet canned tropical fruitcup melange, with mango, guava, papaya, pineapple, grapefruit and orange leading the charge, overlayed with some fresh pine and dank Simcoe/Mosaic vibes and sweet biscuity malt, feels almost like a kick of lactose. Flavour is following the nose, fairly sweet with canned fruit cup again, some tropical notes and plenty of grapefruit in there, some orange, grapefruit peel zestiness, soft pine resinous accents, sweet pale malt and rounded yeast, finishing semi-dry and grapefruit heavy with pretty low bitterness and no real spicy hop burn but maybe a little drying alcohol. Medium plus bodied, oily, fairly soft carbonation. Feels diffferent than the other two versions I've tried, sweeter, more canned fruit, more malt and boost, not quite as gulpable as the others.

(473ml can from L'Axe du Malt, Quebec City) Pours quite hazy dark yellow-gold with a white head. Notes of orange juice, grapefruit and orange peels, light mango, moderate leafy pine and a touch of weed, soft powdery yeast quality and a little biscuit to the moderately sweet malt, finishing fairly dry with orange and grapefruit peel oils and piney, dank resin giving a moderate bitterness. Medium bodied, slightly creamy, with moderate carbonation. A quite solid NEIPA, not a ton that stands out but it drinks well.

(473ml can from L'Axe du Malt, Quebec City) Backlog, was a fresh can when consumed. Pours opaque deep yellow with a thin white head. Notes of quite some juicy pineapple dominating over a more typically balanced hop profile of mango, orange juice and some citrus peel bitters, moderate creamy coconut giving a piña colada vibe as you would expect, soft yeasty notes, average plus sweetness up front in the sip finishing semi-dry and even lightly tart from the pineapple, with fairly low bitterness from citrus peels and a little resin, lingering creamy coconut. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Nice stuff, definitely riding a fair bit on its adjuncts but not a pure smoothie IPA either, drinks quite nicely.

(473ml can from L'Axe du Malt, Quebec City) Pours lightly hazy deep gold with a decent sized white head with little lace. Aroma of pineapple, mango, soft orange and grapefruit, some fresh herbs/grass, moderate coconut, some grapefruit peel aromatics, soft malt notes. Flavour is moderately sweet, pineapple, a bit of orange, grapefruit, soft coconut, fresh herbs, very lightly bready malt, a little alcohol warmth, bitter orange peels and a little herb and coconut accents in the back, soft bready yeast too, finishes near dry with moderate bitterness. Medium bodied, average carbonation. I like this one a hair better than the HBC 472 version, though 692 is perhaps still better as an accent hop than the main show.

(473ml can from L'Axe du Malt, Quebec City) Pours quite hazy yellow gold with a decent head of white froth and lace. Notes of grapefruit peel and unripe pineapple, orange accents, decent amount of coconut flesh, fresh slightly spicy savoury herbs and grass, clean sweetish pale malt, subtle fruity yeast, finishing dry and lightly warm from alcohol with moderate citrus peel and herb bitterness. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Solid more 'savoury' IPA, not pure juice here but lots of the less ripe, coconut and herb type vibes you expect from Sabro. Better than the last HBC 472 beer I tried but I still am on the fence about it.
