Bottle 331/490, edition 2007. It pours an almost flat, unclear, brown body, with some beige bubbles on top. There’s some yeast sediments as well. It has a heavy maltyness in the aroma, with enough hops to give it some balance. There’s also a caramel sweetness, a vinous alcohol touch, a slight oxidation, a note of salty licorice, dried fruits, tobacco leaf box (the pallet boxes tobacco leaves are transported in), a bready touch and some citrus. As I enjoy the aroma, it turns out it’s not as balanced as the first impression suggested, it’s sure on the malty side. In the mouth it’s thick, oily and warming, but in a strange way, it still feels rather thin. There’s flavors of fortified wine, citrusy and piney hops, dark sugars, dried fruits, alcohol, some caramel and tobacco, some oxidation and bitterness. The bitterness comes stronger towards the finish, where it overpowers the sweetness the malt is providing.The alcohol also lasts for a while, which in combination with the sweetness and bitterness is giving me a relaxed feeling. For the first time in my RB-history, I was thinking of giving an overall score of fifteen to a beer I gave eight on aroma and flavor. Even though it smells very good, and tastes very good, there’s something missing. Anyhow, sixteen it got, and it deserves it. I am really starting to grow fond of Roskilde Øl, as they make some fine beer, this one included. Rating: 8-3-8-4-16-3.9. (080331)

Dried fruits, hints of licorice, some alcohol, dark sugar, a little touch of roasted malts, some tobacco, dark caramel and a faint citrusy note on the nose, all just layering up in a very pleasant way. Some signs of oxidation shows up, but I noticed that more than 15 months ago too, so it definately hasn’t deteriorated. It’s full-bodied and sweet in the mouth, it’s low carbonation gives an oily feeling, but the warmth smoothens things out. Dried fruits, raisins mostly, and caramel drives the flavor, with loads of flavors lying underneath. Licorice, bread, citrus, alcohol, tobacco, fortified wine, a hint of roasted malts and probably loads of other things I can’t focus on right now. It’s really complex and tasteful right now, making me look forward to have my last bottle some day. 091124

Bottle. Frothy white alomost no head. Brown very cloudy colour. Powerfull heavy malty and moderate hoppy aroma. Very vinius. Nice powerfull bitter flavoe, strong licorice notes. Long nice finish. Creamy palate. Good stuff.

Bottle. Pours a slightly cloudy, hazy copper-colored body, but due to massive head-formation, it took quite some time to pour. The head was a creamy beige one in the centre, but rather frothy near the wall of the glass. Nice lacings left as well. As the name of the beer indicates, it’s heavy on Columbus hops, rather resiny and citrusy, mostly orange, and there’s also a good maltyness to give it some balance. Not saying it is balanced though. It’s full-bodied, rather sweetish, with resiny, orangey flavors, sweet, caramel, beef-stocky maltyness and a nice biting bitterness. Lasting orange flavor with a good hoppy bitterness and a sweetness managing to balance it. The bitterness lasts longer than the sweetness, so it might not feel balanced. Really enjoyable. When I finally mananged to fit all the contents of the bottle into my glass, the beer turned slightly muddy due to the amounts of yeast, and there was some floaties too. Trivia: The brewery obviously had a hard time deciding on the name, as it’s spelled Colombus on the front label, (does a circular bottle have a front?) and Columbus on the back. Or it might be a label designer in a hurry. (080330)

Bottle at Kolding Ølmesse. Served an almost clear golden with an off-white head. Hops dominates the aroma with pine, resin and a little grapefruit, but there’s also some heavy malts giving it a touch of beefstock. The aroma goes in the same direction, giving it a quite bitter finish with piney and resiny flavors. Mediium to full body. The beer is quite good, but it’s tending towards being one-dimentional. I’d like it with a fuller body and a more pronounced maltyness. Sure nice though. (080229)

Bottle at Kolding Ølmesse. Served a hazy, golden-brown body with a dense, beige head. Some anise and maybe mint in the aroma, but mostly caramel sweetness. The same goes for the flavor, which has some alcohol and a decent bitterness as well. Medium, slightly sticky mouthfeel. Quite nice one, not the typical dubbel though, the anise is too evident for that. Not sure if I like the anise, it makes it a bit tough to drink.(080229)

Bottle at Kolding Ølmesse. The beer looks quite nice, with its hazy, golden-orange body and white head, the flavor and aroma is in another league. Even though they are not bad, they are pretty close. The aroma has mostly pale malt, but also a sourish touch, probably from the lime, as it’s of the fruity kind. The same goes for the flavor, it’s lacking bitterness except for some found in the finish. Medium body. A drinkable beer being close to bad. Wouldn’t dream of drinking more than one bottle though.
