Description
Launched in 2010, Notch Brewing – named for the nick made to keep a record when you're having more than one – was the first brewing company in the U.S. to focus exclusively on session beer. At the time, we simply wanted to brew the beers we loved to drink because finding them was a challenge. Session beer has been enjoyed in every great beer brewing nation for centuries, yet in the U.S. it was overlooked. So we set out to brew the world’s classic session styles from the Czech Republic, Germany, England, and Belgium, as well as explore how session beer could fit with the U.S.’s hoppy beer infatuation. Over a decade later, we have a brewery built on the back of session beer and it’s proven two things: beer consumers like options, and session beer is a great one.

Can. CW online. Clear, yellow gold. Thin and dense, lasting, semi lacing white head. Nose has meaty smoke. Kempke ham (I miss Conrad a lot). Sweet malts. Some fruity hop in the background. Taste has a honey sweetness. Light bitterness. Smooth as silk on the palate with soft and foamy carbonation. Little bit of sourness on the finish rounds it out nicely.

Can (12/15/20--4.5% ABV) from Total Wine & More, Danvers. It's a lightly hazy dark brown-mahogany with decent sparkle at the edges of the glass, finger-width beige foamy head with huge soapy clumps of lace. Aroma is wet leaves, humus, roasted malt, toffee. Taste is woody, lightly roasted malt, mild caramel. Mouthfeel is light side of light-to-medium bodied with thin texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, decent strength of aroma and flavor with a fair amount of complexity if you take your time. Nice.

Can. CW online. Really enjoying these. This one is a hazy, cola brown, with a fine, dense, lightly lacing, lasting, beige head. Looks boss. Nose nuts and caramel. Medium roast malt. Whiff of roasted coffee bean. Some bright hop notes peek through. Taste is sweet and nutty, turning a little ashy, and very light bitter. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Foamy carbonation. Drinks super easy. Dry-ish finish with the caramel thing running throughout. Lovely.
