Can from Harvest. Pours a clear deep amber with a finger of off-white head that lingers. Lovely pink grapefruit and pine aromas on the nose with caramel malt and light bitterness present. Palate is more of the same with toasted caramel and grapefruit standing out. Bright and quite drinkable. Bitter finish, well-balanced. Glad to finally try this classic.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a pretty nice two to three centimetre tall off-white head that fades pretty quickly, but does leave a very thin lace on the top and sides of the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, oatmeal, big caramelised sugars, toffee, earth and a strong hit of lactose and cream with some vanilla and more pungent candy sugar towards the end - very strong in terms of sweetness here with some alcohol and bittering malts noticeable as well, of course. Medium to Full-bodied; Relatively rich earthy and pretty grainy malt notes dominate with a big kick of oatmeal and some cream, milk and pure vanilla here that are coupled withe light spicey flavours of anise, cardamom and canella here, but the pungency of the malts and yeast notes does hit hard towards the end, with a richness from sugars and malts. Aftertaste is complex with some good chocolate and sweet, dessert-like finish with a good kick of oatmeal and grain notes, but the vanilla, lactose, cream and pungency is strong at the end as well, but still somehow relatively easy to get down. Overall, a pretty pungent, but complex, oaty, grainy, earthy and especially chocolatey beer with a good balance throughout that shows some light spices, a ton of sugars and malt body with a good kick of bitterness, grain and earthiness here to make a bit more complex. Overall, a nice, relatively strong and pungent, earthy, nutty and especially malty beer with a good balance of sugars, bitterness, alcohol and umami-like notes, especially at the end. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle, purchased from Wegman's [grocery] in Lake Manassas (Gainesville), Virginia on 16-Mary-2021 for US$1,99 sampled at my house here in Washington on 13-February-2023.

Bottle (freshest by 5/16/23) pour from Total Wine & More, Danvers. It's a clear, dark brown-garnet with nice sparkle, finger-width fizzy beige head head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is earthy roasted malt, toffee, vanilla and late cocoa. Taste is earthy roasted malt, caramel and lactose. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with frothy texture, average carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, there was a time when I would have really liked this and, while good relative to macro-level beer, this pales in comparison to heavyweights in the style.

16 ounce can. Reddish amber color. Frothy, bone colored head. Clinging lace. Toasted malt aroma has herbal, piney notes. Big, bittersweet, toasted malt flavor rings of dank, resiny hops. Warming alcohol comes through in middle, but the intense hop flavors dominate from start to finish. A hop lovers dream!

Corked and capped 375 mL bottle from State Line, shared at the January 2023 PS tasting, 1/14/23. Hazy redamber, no head. Aroma of cherry, pepper, funk, oak. Taste is cherry pie filling, oak, fresh cherry. Earthy. Bright. Very nice.

Pours reddish brown with a big oily head. Aroma of tart cherry juice, some nutty aromas. Taste has cherry juice, stone fruits, some spices, nutmeg, sweet mellifluous notes. Palate has more honey intermixed with tart fruit notes, along with some cocoa and toasted nuts. Fascinating.

It is always good to sample a new quadrupel from a US brewery, some of them are actually rather fine. But I will always appreciate the effort. I have a 37.5 cl bottle that I received from the earnest folks at Half Time. My first cork-and-cage in some time, reminds me of the old days. Inside of my Buffalo Bayou snifter I view a dark amber-black body with a practically not-there ring of silvery bubbles. The smell is gloriously full of ripe fruit along with a promise of spices. And the drink, well, somewhat different for a quad. Immediately I get sour cherries, then it settles into grain, hay, raisins, a touch of cinnamon, cough syrup and malt. Quadrupels are easily my preferred style, this one lies outside the boundary of what I would call accessible. An outlier, not bad, but not a beer I would purchase again.
