Description
Taft’s Brewing Company was born in 2015 through the renovation and repurposing of St. Paul’s Evangelical Church which had been built in 1850 in the Over-The-Rhine district of downtown Cincinnati. Known as Taft’s Ale House, success led to the opening of a large-capacity brewing facility just north of the city in 2017. The facility became the headquarters for Taft’s Brewing Company and also features a tap room known as Taft’s Brewpourium. Its year-round and seasonal offerings are available at both locations as well as bars, restaurants and your favorite stores throughout southern Ohio and Northern Kentucky. Tap. Pours clear reddish Amber, small beige head, dissipates slowly, nice lacing. Aroma is quite light, hints of smoke, caramel, roasted malt. Flavors is medium sweet, light bitter, hints of smoke are a pleasant accent. Medium body, super soft and silky mouthfeel. Excellent for a non-ira amber ale.

Tap. Pours crystal clear yellow, small white head, decent lacing. Aroma is wheat, a bit dusty again, lime. Flavor is light sweet, minimal bitterness, lime is very restrained. Light body. I expected a total gimmick beer, but this is simple and refreshing.

Taster at the Taft’s Ale House in Cincinnati, Ohio. The pour is dark brown, opaque, with a thin well formed light tan head. The aroma is mild char roast, bit of dark chocolate. The taste is a great blend of roast malt, soft earth smoke, and finishing with bitter dark chocolate. The palate is medium bodied, natural carbonation, and a pleasant char roast dark chocolate finish. Nice Porter.

Tulip draft at the Taft’s Ale House in Cincinnati, Ohio. The pour is a darker ruby, copper and a small white pink head. The aroma is light sour funk along with a bit of cherry. The taste is funky lactic sour, with cherry skin behind that. The palate is medium to light bodied with soft natural carbonation and a funk soft acetic finish. Lingering sour, turns almost vinegar as it warms. As it warmed, flavors melded together better. Solid.
