Description
At Luppolo our beer is equally as important as the atmosphere we create in our lounge. Enjoy our selection of craft beers and delicious food in a warm and welcoming environment, your home away from home located in the “Yeast Van” Brewery District in Vancouver, BC.
Luppolo (pronounced loop-o-lo) means hops in Italian. We chose an Italian name due to the Italian heritage of two of our owners and because the values associated with Italian culture–quality, craftsmanship, community and family–are central to our vision.

On tap at Darby’s, pours a hazy yellowish blonde with a small white head. Aroma is dominated by the vermouth, with the brett somewhat perceivable behind it, along with light citric acidity. Flavour is rather astringent, with harsh vermouth character dominating, astringently bitter dry brett, and light acidity. The vermouth has completely taken over, and doesn’t harmonize well with the brett. Clumsy, lacking integration, and really not all that pleasant.

Hazy, pale, thick head. Lots of hops, just distinct enough on the palate with gooseberry and apricot. Soft malt. Very good.

Amber-brown with a thick head. Lots of smoke on the nose. Rich malty character, smoke just rolling through the palate. Not actually getting any whiskey…though these are third use barrels. Maybe the stout comes through a touch. Still, I like the base and I’m here for variants. The barrels must have rounded things out because I appreciated a bit more richness and balance here than in the base.

On tap at Luppolo, pours a hazy dark orange with a medium white head. Aroma is very dry, with quite a lot of bitterness and lots of dry bread crusts. Flavour is very dry, with lots of dry bread crusts, toasted bread, and a lingering bitterness. Dry, bready and bitter finish. Pleasant for what it is.

On tap at Luppolo, pours a clear blonde with a medium white head. Aroma has some unfermented wort, moderate bitterness, and crunchy herbal notes — not getting any NZ hops. Flavour is dry and somewhat soapy, with moderate bitterness without any real hop flavour, and a crunchy, herbal finish. Not digging the hops here, and I find little else to appreciate. Not bad but not one of Luppolo’s better lagers.

On tap at Luppolo. Pours murky ruddy orange with a white head. Biscuity malts and some dry grass on the nose. Flavour has dry, astringent grass and biscuit malts. Clean, but too bitter; not terribly pleasant.

Golden colour, thick foam. Herbaceous hop nose. On the palate, good pilsner. Rich bitterness. Nice biscuity malt base. Laurel leaf, grass, lemon, sage, some really good subtle elements here.
