Luppolo (pronounced loop-o-lo) means hops in Italian. We chose an Italian name due to the Italian heritage of two of our owners and because the values associated with Italian culture–quality, craftsmanship, community and family–are central to our vision.

On tap at Luppolo. Pours a slightly haze golden blonde with a white head. Light, citrus zest, and cereal malts on the nose. Flavour has a fairly vibrant hop expression with resinous pine, citrus zest, and a nice layer of dankness; cereal malt base. Pretty solid.

On tap at Luppolo. Pours a clear blonde with a white head. Crisp dry grass and cracker malts on the nose. Flavour has a clean cracker malt base, lots of dry grass, and an assertive bitterness. Crisp, clean pilsner.

473 ml can. Pours a dark amber with moderate head but with lots of fine floating particles. Aromas of pine, lemon wax, melons and bready malts. Flavors follow same with emphasis on pine. Thin.

Dark brown. No head. This one is flatter than all the others. Aroma is vague toasted hazelnut. Honestly so is the palate. The adjuncts here seem strangely detached from the base, like they were added after the pour. Weird, this one doesn’t work.

Dark brown. Aroma is mild chocolate. On the palate, some vanilla, maybe candied orange. These elements round things out, especially on the young base. Solid.

Dark brown, bourbon nose on this is bright and fresh. Not bad but odd. The base cuts deep with bitter chocolate, a light fruitiness, not much complexity but a good character.

It’s gold and bright, medium head. Lots of bitterness though it is a bit grassy. Big pale malt. It’s good but maybe chinook pilsner isn’t the most amazing thing.

Gold and bright, bubbly head. Lots of allium citra on the nose, light bitterness, sweet malt but not great malt. Not awful but definitely not my kind of beer.

Yeasty, hazy, has a fair bit of bitterness. Quite yeasty, carbo’s a bit more than expected. So the bitterness is right (finally someone did their homework) but the conditioning is gespundet, not ungespundet.

Straw, slight haze, thin head. Moderate bitterness. It’s a bit husky but decently creamy, clean with a nice residual sweetness. Moderate carbonation. This is basically a spot on pre-pro and I’m going to give it points for that.
