Luppolo (pronounced loop-o-lo) means hops in Italian. We chose an Italian name due to the Italian heritage of two of our owners and because the values associated with Italian culture–quality, craftsmanship, community and family–are central to our vision.

On tap at Luppolo. Pours hazy blonde with a white head. Smells like a dentist's office. Flavour has putrid esters and sterile dental equipment. This completely fucked. I'd be embarrassed if my cat pissed this.

On tap at Luppolo. Pours murky light pink with a white head. Decent funk and lime on the nose, some rhubarb in the background. Flavour has bitter lime peels, some rhubarb, dirty funk. This a much better, funnier tart ale than previous iterations of this series.

On tap at Luppolo. Pours hazy light gold with a white head. Nose is quite light with only hints of pale cracker malts. Flavour has dry herbal grass with very little malt supporting it. Thoroughly uninteresting; I expected better from Luppolo.

On tap at Luppolo. Pours a thick hazy yellow with a white head. Tons of bubblegum esters on the nose, some dry straw to offset. Flavour has bubblegum esters, slightly dry yeast expression, plenty of straw. Not digging this.

On tap at Darby's. Pours hazy yellow with a white head. Light Brett, lemon citrus on the nose. Flavour has lemon peels and a large dose of spice and vermouth barrels. A bit clumsy, but I do like the vermouth here.

On tap at Darby’s, pours a hazy yellowish blonde with a small white head. Aroma is dominated by the vermouth, with the brett somewhat perceivable behind it, along with light citric acidity. Flavour is rather astringent, with harsh vermouth character dominating, astringently bitter dry brett, and light acidity. The vermouth has completely taken over, and doesn’t harmonize well with the brett. Clumsy, lacking integration, and really not all that pleasant.

Hazy, pale, thick head. Lots of hops, just distinct enough on the palate with gooseberry and apricot. Soft malt. Very good.

Amber-brown with a thick head. Lots of smoke on the nose. Rich malty character, smoke just rolling through the palate. Not actually getting any whiskey…though these are third use barrels. Maybe the stout comes through a touch. Still, I like the base and I’m here for variants. The barrels must have rounded things out because I appreciated a bit more richness and balance here than in the base.
