Growler poured at the brewery and brought back via Helijet to the mainland and sampled in Surrey. Yes, this is what Beer tasting is - a jet-setting lifestyle only available to the rich and famous!! Or, maybe not... This pours with significant carbonation, small bubbles in a medium brown body and very modest white foam on top. Lots of malt character on the nose, some orange peel, but little else. Flavour is a malt forward affair with chunky brown bread and just a hint of hops to sharpen it out. Maltiness is a big surprise out here on the west coast so I'm surprised and impressed. I will, indeed, drink all sixteen ounces this evening. I already had the pizza over at the brewery......

Growler poured at the brewery and brought back to the lower mainland. Pours a strongly carbonated yellow with very nice bleach white foam on top. The aroma is floral leaning hops but also some juiciness in there too so it's not too perfumy. Flavour is a well balanced malt and hop construct with just the right balance of oiliness on the mouth. This is quite impressive, very well done, worth visiting Port Alberni to try.

Growler brought back to Vancouver from Port Alberni. Pours heavily carbonated dirty yellow with pretty good foam on top. Nice wet hoppiness on the nose but somewhat refined. Flavour is a good hop blend with some soft grain on the back end to help it out. Mouthfeel is not too full but comes off as refreshing. This is a great lighter drinking beer.

Growler fill from the brewery, tasted at home. Pours a heavily carbonated dark brown and modest head on top. The aroma is tinny barley, roasted a bit. Flavour is sweet molasses with some soft coffee notes. Full on the mouth, pulling toward too sweet but still reasonably balanced. Okay porter.

Growler fill from the brewery, brought back the fast way (Helijet) to the lower mainland. Pours modestly yellow with strong carbonation and reasonably good white foam on top. The aroma is crisp hops with sharp pineapple notes. Flavour is bright pineapple hops and good oil on the mouth followed by a reasonably crisp finish. This is good stuff, perhaps even worth driving to Port Alberni to try.

Hazy and a very light tan colour, kind of a harsh kettle sour nose with acetic and lactic. Similar palate, though there is some soft malty sweetness. Still, no fruit, really, and all told it doesn’t come together.

2017. Dark amber. Thick head, on the nose a fair bit of caramelly, toffeeish malt. Not at the style’s upper echelon but decent. Soft body, some toffeeish stickiness, quite sweet.

Hazy but greyish. Thick head. Salty and lime nose. Very tart citric acid and salt. Won’t say it doesn’t deliver but definitely not exciting.

@ BC Beer Awards. Pinkish colour, nice head, cranberry, light floral, tart, good complexity. Excellent.

Tasting at SF, Vancouver, growler
Hazy golden color. It's an off dry, modern, crisp IPA, quite bold, but ruined by a large amount of diacetyl. Still drinkable, but it needs to be tuned.
