Half pint cask at brewery. Dark golden color. Cask head but less lacing then the other 3 beers at my table. That authentic musty and wet malt aroma. Cask-flattish mouthfeel. Flavor has a light touch of hops, wet sweet white bread. A little sticky on the enamel. A bit boring, even for the style.

Cask at the brewery - turbid dark brown - aroma is fairly chocolatey, kind of like tootsie rolls, actually - surprising level of hop character - flavor is kind of similar - a fair amount of chocolate, some tobacco, leafy bitterness - moderately bitter, mushroom/earthy finish - tastes better than it smells - decent - a little sweet.

On cask tap at special brews. Pours a cloudy dark yellow with a bubbly head. Barely there citrus aroma. Something about this beer is great, but I can’t quite pinpoint it. Extremely drinkable. Slightly bitter on the finish. Has a nice sessionable feel to it. Tasty. Good beer.

4.4/10 β€” Appearance 6 Aroma 4 Flavor 4 Texture 4 Overall 4.5
On cask at Machine House, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma reveals notes of wet cardboard that all the Machine House beers have had - not really getting any typical stout-y notes. Flavour is more stout-like, but still kind of off, with notes of wet cardboard, light powdery cocoa and a stake quality. Not a very well-designed oatmeal stout. Needs work.

On cask at Machine House, pours a murky dark amber brown with a small beige head. Aroma and flavour is off, with wet cardboard, some English malt and more stale quality. Something seems off about all these beers - I wonder if there's an infection problem. Not good.

6.4/10 β€” Appearance 6 Aroma 6 Flavor 7 Texture 6 Overall 6.5
On cask at Machine House, pours a murky dark brown with a small head. Aroma brings out English hops and chocolate malt - with a little wet cardboard. Flavour is true to style and really quite flavourful, with dry chocolate, wet cardboard and just enough hop content. Drinkable and enjoyable. Good mild.

On cask at Machine House, pours a clear dark copper with a small white head. Aroma is true to style, with English hops, cardboard, and herbal notes. Flavour is identical, with herbal English hops, some cardboard and cereal malt. Not overly interesting, but well-balanced and drinkable. Decent bitter.

5.6/10 β€” Appearance 6 Aroma 5 Flavor 6 Texture 6 Overall 5.5
On cask at Machine House, pours a mostly clear golden with a small head. Aroma is subtle, with English hops, with cereal malt and straw. Flavour is very authentic, with a fair dose of English hops, some fruitiness, and dry biscuity malt. Well-balanced and drinkable, but jot overly interesting.

Pump - Light toast and that same bit of astringency in their others. Muddy brown with a small beige head. Grainy, caramel, spice and a light sweet twig.

Pump - Syrupy, toast and sweetness. Deep jet brown with a decent brown head. Toast and a syrupy sweetness. Not the normal slickness and body from oatmeal
