At Prickly Moses Brewing Co we think it takes all of the above, but we also think it takes something else. We call it Otway magic, but you might know her as Mother Nature. We’re an independent brewery and the home of the Prickly Moses Brewery, Forbidden Fruit Cidery and Redwood Distillery. Some local brands you know and love.

Pours gold with a small, fading head.Nose shows nutty malt, soft caramel, some minerals, quite nice. Reminiscent of Nutella!Flavours include the same nutty malt, also sweet caramel and a very slight tartness leading to a dry finish.Could use a fair bit more carbonation.I actually quite enjoyed this, quite understated and moreish.

Pours black with a large head.Nose shows cocoa, passionfruit, grapefruit, caramel, roasted malt and sweet dark chocolate.Very aggressively roasty flavours, lots of cocoa and espresso. Also notable is some grapefruit and piney characters. Finishes with a powerful roasty and hoppy bitterness. Almost harsh.Carbonation is a bit full-on.

Pours cloudy orange/brown with a short-lived head.Nose shows piney, resinous and fruity hops with sweet caramel underneath.Similarly hoppy flavours, lots of pine and peach with some grassy notes too. Underneath is nutty malt and a little caramel. Very bitter finish, quite sharp.A good step up for Prickly Moses. The grassy character is unfortunate, perhaps an indication of too much dry-hopping?

Bottle. Almost black with an inch of light tan head. Citrus and singed caramel aroma with some pine and chocolate. Sweet and first with chocolate and licorice, grapefruity bitterness. Silky mouthfeel with light roasted flavours lurking underneath fruity hops. Good.

Pours amber with a small white head.Nose shows artificial blueberry and little else...Same thing in the way of flavours, blueberry dominating, although a little banana, wheat and bubblegum shows too. Pretty subtle though.Good low carbonation works well.

Bottle. Hazy amber with a lovely dense off-white head. Aroma is earthy with some citrus and stone fruit. Some stewed fruit too. Taste has light caramel sweetness then assertive bitterness with under-ripe nectarines, citrus and pine. Very gluggable. Lingering pine and stone fruit. The aroma is a bit muted and muddled, but otherwise this is straightforward and good.

Pours orange/amber with a large, fading head.Nose shows sweet malty notes of honey and nuts alongside a little fruity, floral hops. There is a faint vegetable character, but it’s not too strong.More malt as a flavour, with quite prominent nutty hints. Falls short quickly though with an insipid finish made up of a plain bitterness and faint lemon tang.Very light body, carbonation is too high.I must say, this surpassed my expectations.

Pours pale gold with a massive head.Nose shows nice biscuity malt and lemony, spicy and grassy hops. Quite pleasant.Flavours are quite disappointing in comparison, not much of the biscuity malt transfers through, instead there’s hints of vegies. Some lemon shows.Carbonation is pretty high but it works well. Body feel very watery though.

From a 330ml on 12/3/2011. Pours a cloudy straw colour with a slight head. Has a slight yeasty, fruity (lemon) aroma. The main flavours are tropical fruit and more lemon, with a slightly sour dash of hops. The body is quite thin. Just okay.

Tap, GABS. Cloudy greyish orange, white head. Aroma has lots of nice blueberries and their skins. Light bready body. Some tartness. Refreshing in small quantity, couldn’t drink much of it. Perhaps overly fruity - or at least too much skin in the finish.
