Description
A lot goes into making great tasting beer and spirit. It takes the right ingredients delicately balanced together to produce that great taste you’re looking for. It takes experience and a team of brewmasters and distillers who are dedicated to the craft of beverages. It takes an understanding of what people want when they crack one open on a warm summer night, a weekend spent catching up with good friends, or at the end of a long hike.

At Prickly Moses Brewing Co we think it takes all of the above, but we also think it takes something else. We call it Otway magic, but you might know her as Mother Nature. We’re an independent brewery and the home of the Prickly Moses Brewery, Forbidden Fruit Cidery and Redwood Distillery. Some local brands you know and love.

Bottle. Cloudy rose gold with a coat of off-white head. Aroma of raspberries, a hint of basement. Thin body - a bit watery. No particular sweetness but there’s a raspberry presence that’s a little jammy and a little stemmy. The tartness is slight but there. Some wood and a touch of metal at the finish along with the slight funk. Very refreshing and quite interesting but just not enough flavour.

Bottled. A hazy dark amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of wood, brettanomyces, fruits, and berries. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, wood, brettanomyces, and berries, leading to a dry woody finish.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of bluebetty. Pours a clear amber with a small off-white head. Great oak aroma with a tart whiff. Medium body, sweet malts and toffee with lots of barrel character, sweet yet with a delicate tartness. Ends smooth with the alcohol well hidden. Lovely. 021110

Pours amber with a large lasting head.Nose shows plenty of biscuity, bready and nutty malt with subtle earthy and faintly spicy hops. Very nice, really appetising. Some of the malt transfers through as flavours but the bitterness is a little metallic. Still very enjoyable.Body is perhaps a little watery.Very pleased with this, especially considering how dissapointing many of their other beers were.

Bottle. Honey-coloured with an inch of off-white head. Lots of lacing. Nose is quite rich and fruity with some earth. Taste has some caramel sweetness and grainy lager sourness with solid drying bitterness. Neither oversweet nor over-rich. Fresh and highly gluggable.

From a 330ml bottle on 10/10/2010. The aroma is grassy and bready, with some toffee. The taste is mainly some sweetish malt with a touch of fruit. Has a nice long hoppy finish - definitely has more than a dash of pilsener like character to it. Noting that lagers are not designed to rock your world, this is very enjoyable for its style.

Agree with Stew on this one.Pours reddy amber, small off-white head.Nose shows dirty lemon notes, like lemon lollies. A fair bit of sour brett-like character in there (from the barrel possibly?), like a flander’s red. Lots of acidity.Flavours show less acidity, more woody oak and alcohol. Some sweet malt shows at first but then the lemony gueuze character cuts in. Somewhat harsh. Actually, very harsh.Low carbonation, could be higher.

330ml bottle. Mahogany, wisp of a beige head retreats to the rim. Aroma dark sugars, berries, grapes, dough, cinnamon, ginger. Tastes like a spicy cider with some tart as well as quite a lot of sweet. Some toasted, almost roasted malt flavours. Wood on the finish creeps in after a few sips. Odd and not very Belgian-seeming. Needs some bubbles. But quite complex and pleasantly well-integrated flavours. Still, a bit of a let down after their Bière de Garde.
