Description
A lot goes into making great tasting beer and spirit. It takes the right ingredients delicately balanced together to produce that great taste you’re looking for. It takes experience and a team of brewmasters and distillers who are dedicated to the craft of beverages. It takes an understanding of what people want when they crack one open on a warm summer night, a weekend spent catching up with good friends, or at the end of a long hike.

At Prickly Moses Brewing Co we think it takes all of the above, but we also think it takes something else. We call it Otway magic, but you might know her as Mother Nature. We’re an independent brewery and the home of the Prickly Moses Brewery, Forbidden Fruit Cidery and Redwood Distillery. Some local brands you know and love.

Pours dark brown with a large, lasting head.Nose shows chocolate and roasted malt alongside spicy characters, hints of cinnamon and booze.Flavours are pretty eclectic. Lots of roasted malt with some faint cocoa, but also heavy grapefruit and pine. The finish is a little chalky/ashy, and there’s an underlying sweetness that’s almost cloying.Carbonation seems a little high. The mix of flavours is a little brash but otherwise a good beer.

Bottle. Reddish brown with an off-white head that fades to a coat. Aroma of toffee, berries and grass. Sweet with butterscotch and red fruits, drying finish. Rather watery.

Bottle. Bright copper with a white head. Aroma of apples, pears, earth. Taste is fruity with light biscuit. Barely sweet with balancing bitterness and some spices at the end. Slightly watery, highish carbonation. Dry finish. Very refreshing. Much better than I recalled it being.

Having loved the PM Ale and not liked the PM Stout, I figured this one was going to colour my opinion of the brewery overall. Frankly, I struggled to get much out of it at all in terms of flavour. It is a fairly watery, low-carbonated beer with not much of a head and leaves only the slightest, somewhat bitter, taste at the end.

Bottle, 4.3%ABV. Hazy yellow with a white head. Aroma is wheaty with oranges, vanilla and coriander seed. Quite watery. Taste is slightly sweet with some spices at the end. A bit empty and that tang that can make Wits so refreshing is barely there.

Bottle. Dark brown with a large beige head that fades but laces nicely. Aroma of nuts, chocolate, something herbal that I can’t identify. Taste is sweet and very nutty with chocolate; grapefruit and spices come in in a modest bitter finish. Smooth texture is slightly syrupy. Tasty brown ale, but the hop flavours didn’t mesh with it for me.

Pours amber with a large, white sudsy head.Nose shows Belgian doughy yeast and related phenols. Also some sweet light malt and wheat. Quite light. In the way of flavours sweet plain malt dominates with spicy notes and bready characters showing later. Doughy wheat and soft booze are also present.Carbonation is a little full. While not a great representation of the style this is quite enjoyable stuff.

Pours dark amber/copper with a lasting head.Very sweet-smelling aroma, with some earthy and nutty malt. Not much else going on.Very similar flavours, mainly earthy and nutty malt, but some grainy character enters a bit later on.Nice moderate carbonation and slightly syrupy body. The cocoa is definitely a subtle character here, don’t expect something really chocolatey.

Pours dark amber/ruby with a large head.Nose shows nutty malt and lemon notes. Pretty faint, not much going on.Similar nutty notes as a flavour right through to the finish. Also some solvent-like alcohol and hints of pear.Nice moderate carbonation, body seems slightly watery though. The nutty malt is lovely, but other than that this is somewhat plain.
